View Full Version : Paint scheme ideas - 242GT content
I have a 242GT waiting for me and I'm trying to decide on what color I want to paint it next summer. I'm thinking either ice blue or orange. If you have any ideas lemmy know (colors, stripes, etc.) and I'll post what it looks like. I need to finish the grill, lights, put new wheels on, and on and on, but the body is at least done.

Current paint is a rough, non-reflective paint so it needs new paint anyway.
And no, I'm not using spray paint. That wasn't my car. I used real paint with a real paint gun. So don't bring that **** up.

I kinds like the orange or the green both are nice and flashy the blue is just to plain and it would look to much like a 240 DL

Orange looks like Halloween unless you paint it Candy Tangerine. A green car just doesn't get it, in my opinion, unless you use Candy Lime Gold. Candy paints are very difficult to apply correctly, so I would suggest Black, Silver or any Red. I paint every car or bike I own Black, Porsche Silver or Maroon or Dark Red. A really great color I can't wait to use is Dark Cherry, a 94 Cadillac color. It is a truly outstanding color that would make any car look great.
Strong bright colors are ok in small doses, like on a motorcycle, but on a car, they are way too much.

^^WTF was that? Candys and Maroon? And green cars don't get it? The car in my avatar gets more ass than any black or maroon car. Bright colors FTW.

+1 to that.
I like the green, very bright and cheery. Just like my Austin Healey (signal green) bright green cars put a smiles on peoples faces. Not to mention you'll be seen, and less likely to be run into. Maybe we can stop this 242 wrecking epidemic! lol.
I like the orange too, just comment it with a lot of chrome so it doesn't look like a jack-o-lantern.

Why are 95% of the cars in print and TV ads Black, Silver or bright Red? Because those 3 colors make cars look best.

Does that mean that it's a beautiful color?
Most people think that Chartreuse is ugly. Why does it make people smile? Most likely because they are too polite to laugh out loud.
The man asked for paint scheme ideas. That's exactly what I gave him.

"Chartreuse" is more of a yellow. The paint code for the Bugeye is literally "signal green." Besides, I've seen girls jump up and down with glee at the sight of that car. "What an awesome color!!!"
Also got a comment from a British guy... "great color for a Frogeye!"
Piss off. All I was doing was discounting your opinion, and it worked. Thank you.
The bright colors are mostly because of what the car is going to be used for: Racing. "lame" cars draw a lot more attention of they can not only hold their own but do it with flare. For autoX and drifting I'd rather have my car stand out in the crowd.
Black is out of the question. The body has dents, which I can patch, but it still won't look as nice as it should with a gloss black paint.

There's actually a pink DL that I see driving to work sometimes. :O Not this intense, though. 8D

So far the orange and the white look best to me...White will hide the dents, but I'm quite partial to that pea green early 70's colour that Volvo used on the 240 - IMHO I think that would look cool with your double stripe theme.

You didn't say it was going to be a race car. In that case, the best orange is Omaha Orange, the best green is Sub Lime. These will look good on white like white with orange racing stripes, or lime with orange racing stripes. Or the classic American racing stripes, white with medium metallic blue racing stripes. For the blue, look at Bahama Blue, a very early Cadillac color from the fifties. You will have to go to the oldest auto paint store in town to find the mix formula for Bahama Blue. Or, maybe they are all on a CD now.

Black. If you can do the body work right it will look good. If you can't do the body work right there is no point in painting the car in the first place.

why don't you do purple with yellow poka-dots, like a bricked out eggplant sweet tooth, that should be bright enough for you

Orignal paint scheme.
Silver with the GT-Stripe.
The best.
I'm not much of a fan of black wheels. I like mine white or metal. I won't be keeping these wheels on, though. Probably put the wheels from my 740 on and find some alloy wheels to keep the stickies on. I'll try to get the drawing finished so I can play with more stripes, wheel colors, etc. Though I'd really love love love to get some pegs on that beezy.
Oh, and ski rack: yay or nay?

I thought the "orange kryptonite" 240 was white/orange?
