do all B23's have a trayed oil pan like this

are these M rods cause they don't look thick like the ones i've seen in pics and they've got a thick line like you get on forged stuff.

i opened it up to have a look see. this is the engine i got off ebay (sold Dlot the SCP405).
the car it's out of was Writen off in 87 (so just 3 years use), has sat for 17 years though. but still turns over as normal but bores a bit of surface rust

The pan is just a normal B23/B230 pan. You should have a B cam in that head though

Rods look like M rods. M rods have studs for the rod caps, the 13mm's (not sure about 9's) have bolts.

So essentially that is what I'd see inside a B23FT also? Probably a nice hot tank cleanup and honing would fix that cylinder corrosion correct? My B21FT still had very defined honing cross hatching when replacing the head gasket at 275k miles.
Thank you for the pics and info guys.
That head is going to go on something good.
Best regards,

In the past week I've seen a B230F, B21FT, and AQ125 oil pans, and they all looked the same.
Thanks for that info doug, very good to know. Now hopefully I'll remember it!

This is the block that's in my car, taken last week. It's an '85 B230F, canadian model if that makes a difference. If I'm seeing things right it's got bolts rather than studs as in Raven's picture up top. My knowledge on rods tends to be a bit forgetful. Does this mean that I've got 9mm rods with bolts? I guess that's normal, if anything I'm just clarifying this for doug! Unless I'm lucky and got 13's.

then i guess the 9mm's have bolts too.
your Crank isn't as pretty as the B23 one. which is much thinnner due to being forged
