I know a few people here have had success with the cheapie eBay wastegates, especially after replacing the diaphragm with the OE one.

Anybody had success with one of these suckas?

Replace the diaphragm, can't see what would go wrong at that point because all that ever went wrong for me was the diaphragm disintegrating.

I have the 60mm hks knockoff, will see how it goes.

I took it apart and assembled it with just the largest spring and bench tested it- opens at 8psi. I didn't have a diaphragm handy, but eh like I said we'll see.

Assuming you have an overboost fuel cut of some sort that is correctly set up, you really can't hurt much...

One thing I forgot to mention is that the 60mm chinagate is not *quite* built correctly.

The steel nut that the aduster rod threads into, is supposed to be screwed into the aluminum housing. On the chinese version it is swaged on. In order to use the "assembly tool" to change springs, you need to be able to remove that piece.

So, you have to use a vise to assemble it when you change springs unfortunately.

KLracing in Sweden is selling the HKS knockoffs too. A few of the swedes on savarturbo are having decent luck with them.

I shortened the threaded end on valve and installed diagram with long nut and locking washer. Now I can use 6mm thread bar and a nut with big washer instead of the tool to compress spring in situ. I recommend to do it. And with biggest spring only it gives on my setup 0.4 bar with exhaust backpressure helping it to open. Then I used a second spring VW beetle std valve spring (38kg free lenght) to rise the base boost to 1,5 so I can use the adjusting up to 2,6 bar without a fear of adjuster bottoming out to valve...

hm the HKS knockoff..

I don't have experience with that specific model, but i did have a bad experience with an ebay chinese HKS SSQV knockoff. The plunger seal would constantly blow out the purge hole, extremely annoying. I was running about 18-19psi with a t3/t4 hybrid.

Thanks kuikka. So the 0.4bar with the biggest spring is with the adjuster all the way in?
It tested at about 0.6bar on the bench so with exhaust backpressure assisting it may well be that low.

I am tempted now to install the next stiffer size, but on the T6 I am predicting 0.4bar to already be in the low to mid 200's for horsepower, I don't really want more than that while I am testing.

Any idea what the next stiffer spring is on the lowest setting? They are a pain to change especially in my case becuase i have to remove the wastegate (firewall is too close to open it in situ):-(

No, it was 0,4 bar with adjuster loose, you can get about 0,8 with it tight. I newer played with it so much with original springs..

Showed up today, we'll see how it works.

There's a bit of clearance between the valve and the body, from bench-assembling it looks like it actually seats against the flange, not sure how I feel about that. I'm just routing it out the fender, so I'll sure know quickly if there's any leaks!
