As much as I've enjoyed driving a bone stock PRV car for the past 2-4 months, its absolutely killing me how uninspiring the damn thing is below 3000 rpm. This in addition to the AW its attached to that shifts at ~4700, means that I go very slow most of the time.

I love the idea of turbocharging it and getting my kicks that way- John Lane has been most helpful in guiding me to the right places to do reading and such- but its ungodly expensive and Mr. Lane has been busy and unable to get me an exact quote for the internal parts I'd need. It also bugs me that it's only sort of a Volvo motor (don't ask why, I'm neurotic :-P).

I think it could be a fun motor even N/A with some headers and a T5 sitting behind it.

My second option is to get a B230ft or B234f+t and shove that in there. I'm not looking for huge power, just a fun and reliable DD.

What would you do? Stick with the PRV or go back to Redblock?

Eh, b230ft/lh for simplicities sake.

I've known 3 people that had the PRV in a 260 and 780, and ALL of them swapped in a 4 cyl B23FT or B230FT, one only had the car a year, less than 10k miles on it. The conversion is do-able, but a lot of work.
That's a poor engine to try and do a lot of performance things with, except for a late K-jet PRV that was put into the Delorean, had better cams and fuel system, and even then it was uninspiring.
In the short term you will find some pleasure if you convert to an M46 manual trans and leave the rest alone.

btw, what car?

A turbo PRV will sound better than any B230 ever, fwiw.

could you imagine if it was all Volvo?? even less parts available for it and people hot-rodding them :)

a T5 right now would be a step in the correct direction, PM Alex Buchka, he should be working on doing this right now

turbo prv will always be cool, but unless you are doing all the leg work it'll be faster/easier to do a red/white block(or just get another car closer to the setup you want)

My 760 with B28E and M46 drove pretty nice (but bad injectors and stuff). Very responsive!
You almost got a whiplash when flooring it in 2nd @1500 rpm.. (K-jet dumping fuel...)

BTW: I think I have a second M46 bellhousing for the PRV lying around..
