Have one rim.... it looks like it ate a brake pad. there is a layer of baked on build up (Rusted) that will not come off with regular wheel cleaner, any ideas how to get this off without damaging the wheel? sorry no pics yet

What kind of wheel? Cleaning it would depend on the spoke design and finish.
But I would recommend pressure wash them to get the majority of crud off, steam clean it to heat the hard to get build up, paint the centers gold, and then sell them for $800.
There's this product at AutoZone called Oomph. I used it on my 242 to get some grime off of the paint (it's been sitting for 9 years) and it works wonders. Use that and a stiff brush.

i use a wire wheel on the end of an electric drill to get brake dust off the inside of a rim, along with heavy simple green use.. worked wonders. of course i wouldn't recommend this for the outside of the rim.

I recently used oven cleaner on a set of Beemer wheels. The results were pretty good, but I did have VERY CAREFULLY to use a (worn) straight-edged screw driver to chip off the heavy stuff.
Oh, don't leave it on for for than 10 minutes and use rubber kitchen gloves (the thicker, the better). You may find streaks on your wheels if you leave it on too long.
