Hi there...iīm thinking about what hood scoop is the best to put on my 240, im not "hood scoop lover" but i have to use one cause i canīt close the hood with the cobra intake on the 4.6 in:lol:
I was thinking about 2" cowl...or small ram-air....maby something like the bubble on the BMW M3
Give me some ideas...

This is my 240 before engine swap

You can adjust the hood in the back to close but have a 1-2inch gap near the windshield. that might give u the clearance....

:omg::grin::clap:

man, i just chuckled with delight, like santaclause or something, that is epic. I'll not clog your thread, but please start a build thread.

oh, and instead of a hood scoop, maybe a small revers-cowl, or just a hump like the lexus IS-F, or the new M3. just my opinion.

space the back of the hood up till it clears it does adjust about 1" but you could run spacers for more clearance. scoops look like butt. awsome project.

besides, hoods lifted in the back, if you do it right, looks ****ing sexy

that + naca duct if you're running a turbo = win

Holy ****. That's a lot of engine in that bay. How's the driver's side exhaust manifold gonna work out?

I think the old Ford Thunderbolt(drag car) type hood scoop would be cool. It's shaped like a "teardrop" with the pointed end facing front of car.Has screened vents at rear, towards the center. I have seen them turned the other way too. Would work out good, because no worrys about water getting in during driving in rain. Also help vent hot air from underhood. Also it was designed by Ford IIRCC. Was popular in early to late 60's Mustangs,Fairlanes, Galaxies drag cars ran them. Google Ford Thunderbolt Drag Cars, should get you a pic. It'll give you hood clearance, but still be aerodynamic too. Thats my opinion. By the way, that things gonna honk!!!!!!!!!! Better hold on!!

Just how much room do U need? I shimmed about an inch between the k-member and frame to keep things under a stock hood once...then cut the coils to lower the front. worked out real nice!

One of the very few V8 swaps I don't utterly hate.

It would be a shame in my opinion to put something on that hood that would draw much attention, so something subtle, yet functional should be the objective. The 240 hood is one that doesn't seem to go with very many scoop designs. My suggestion, if you can find it, would be a bubble or hump, as has been mentioned, although I'm not sure where one already made can be found that goes well. Otherwise, if a scoop become the best choice, I would look for a low, wide one that hopefully goes well on a 240 hood. also a scoop can be placed with the opening to the rear, which would be best for a car that won't benefit functionally from a forward scoop. Here are some that might work...
This first one says it's 2 inches high:

Or something like the Roush scoop in this page if not too tall:

I'd like to see someone just take the center cowlish part and bump it up an inch or two... Still largely stock looking, but fits moar **** under your hood! =p

Can you get the clearance you need by skinning the hood? or do you need moar?

Just slam the hood harder. it will self-clearance.

-1, i've seen some major wear and tear issues with this kind of method, unless the proper tools are used to pre stress the hood before trying to self clearance it... :-P

Propane torch the hood, then slam it? At least the heat would help stop the paint cracking.

Heat it till it turns red and starts sagging down then slam it... Good idea

Engine mounts, k-member and x-member are ready, engine compartment is now waiting for the paint to dry... Steering shaft and brake booster modifications almost done (as you can imagine the vacuum booster had to be removed).
One lean mean rubber-grilling machine is being created, one step at a time.
I will throw in some pics in few days
