I am in the process of swapping engines in my old BMW. It had a carbed NA engine and gets an injected turbo engine.

I want to use an aftermarket stand alone engine management on it. (original ECU not available) But i'm a noob regarding this topic so i would really appreciate your advice.

First some basic info. The engine has:
- 2x Bosch anti-detonation sensor
- a TPS that only (micro)switches idle controlcircuit on/off
- idle speed valve
- 1x Bosch cold start injector
- 6x Bosch 0 180 150 200 injectors
- TDC sensor on the front pulley, pulley has one trigger-thingy on it.
- cam driven dizzy (no advance mechanics in it.)
- engine coolant temp sensor.
- oil temp sensor in the sump
- oilpressure sensor
- flapper airflow meter ( which i prefer not to use) (can i use a MAP sensor?)
- 1 coil + powerstage.

Which engine management do i need to use all input of these sensors?
Megasquirt + megaspark? Which versions? Can MS&S be bought in assembled form or do i need to solder a kit together? Does it come with tuning software?

i want to install:
- a wideband lambda sensor ( which brand/type? can all management systems manage all lambda input signals?)- a boost control solenoid. ( can i use one from a particular type vehicle?)- a fuelpump able to deliver 400HP worth of fuel (@3bar) (which brand/type?)

What brands and types of stuf are 'best-buys' for my project?
Any suggestions where to buy?

Thanks in advance
Jan

I'd go for VEMS. http://shop.vems.hu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=48
Seen vems a few times and i really liked it, if i ever go standalone, i'm going for Vems.

Is it possible to ditch the dizzy? A Bosch 3x2 double fire coil pack would be just the ticket. I think you can find them in the Opel Omega V6, or in the Bosch Motorsport section (€130-ish new).

Plenty of bmw guys have done this I'm sure... What motor are you putting in, I'm assuming M42 S14 M20 if its flapper door? You'll be ditching the airflow meter usually when going standalone regardless... or you will want to if you're going through all this trouble. Have you checked out www.e30tech.com? There are a few guys on there running turbo M20's etc, that use megasquirt. You can buy a comlete unit from www.diyautotune.com, although depending on your skills, soldering isn't too bad either (I opted for the prebuild route myself)...

There are a ton of Widebands out there... JAW or Innovative LC1 seem to be 2 popular choices on here. Usually the ems (including MS), has the option for different voltage input ranges... this usually can be 0-2v or 0-5 etc...

There are a few options for fuel pumps, the Porsche 996 turbo inline pump (bosch), is beefy as hell, the cheaper option is Walbro 255lph, but watchout for cheap knockoffs (hard to tell the diff), that won't last nearly as long.
