1968 144S with 65,000 original miles. Has been parked in a driveway for six years. Currently not running. Lot of green gunk on the exterior....8 hours to clean and scrub. Next project, the mechanicals...........

Nice... I dig 140s. Sometimes I think about selling the GT and buying a 142.
How's the paint? It looks pretty good.

I get my Dad signed up for tbricks and he barely says anything about the car we cleaned all day:roll:
He is the third owner of the car and bought it from my new neighbor. My neighbor also has a brand new looking '83 242 sitting in the garage. This will get to be his first project Volvo, every other one has DD status. We now have 7 Volvos in the family, 6 of which were at his house last night.
Dad: '68 144S, '00 V70
Mom: '95 854
Lil Sister: '89 744GL (sold), '90 744 GL
Me: '71 142E, '89 244DL
My Wife: '96 855 Platinum
The last picture is of me, my son and my Dad. Now we need to tackle replacing hoses, belts, and fluids. The interior is in great shape, although sun faded. The paint is also in pretty good shape, it passes the 15 ft test, but it will get repainted in the next year or two.

Does anyone know if the rear side markers, red one, should have wires running to them or are they just reflectors?

The 144 was parked for six years without a storage prep. Besides replacing all the hoses, belt, etc., what is needed to flush the tank and fuel lines? Do we need to pull the tank? Structurely the tank is great, no exterior rust or wear. Don't want to pull it if we don't need to....Thanks!:)

On my 142 I replaced the rubber lines with good year fuel hose where it had been rubber lines, and blew out the metal lines.
I dropped my tank and cleaned with lacquer thinner and then washed out with a garden hose, and then blew it out with my air gun.
I would unbolt the drain plug on the bottom of the tank and see what the fuel looks like and see if its rusty brown color, if you have doubts drain the whole tank dry, and then reinstall drain plug and pull out the fuel level sending unit and see if how the tank looks?
When you clean the tank do the shake and bake method, or shake the tank like its a baby, try to get all the little rust balls out so they don't wind up in the carbs.
Good luck with the duel Stromburgs!

That first good cleanup is always such a thrill when you get her home......:) My cousins P1800 convertible had those caps and wheel covers on it back in the day...

We made some good progress today(sorry no pics). We drained and refilled the coolant and put new radiator hoses on, put a new timing belt on, an oil change was done, sprayed lube in the spark plug holes, and derusted and painted the battery tray. I was also able to rotate the crank by grabbing the fan and turning, which is really good news.

Are you sure that it was a timing belt?

Its the only belt there is...I'm guessing its called a timing belt :e-shrug:

V belt, sometimes called a fan belt. Pushrod motor has timing gears. Stock timing gears are prone to wear, might want to consider finding steel gears. Just checked, looks like IPD no longer carries either.:grrr:

My wing windows on the 144 have de-attached from the metal pivot pins. Recommendations to re-glue them?
