This is my first time here, so please excuss any Forrest Gumpage on my part :)

The car: 1991 744T 300336 miles
The Problem: Clutch Fork

The other night while at the drive through ATM, after finishing my transaction I was in the proccess of engaging 1st gear when suddenly there was an all mighty pop; the clutch leaver went straight to the floor.
Needless to say I was puckering for a second:oogle:
At first I thought the Master or the Slave cylinder/seals,etc went; but on closer inspection the push rod that is connected to the slave cylinder punched its way through the fork arm.

Is this a comman problem?

Is there a way, like welding the hole so I can at least drive it down to my ind. volvo repair guru to have it fixed. He is located about 22 miles and the towing fee would be worth another car.....;-)

Any Ideas???

Thanks..

weld a washer in the hole that's a bit smaller.

HA! This just happened to me two weeks ago. I thought that the slave cylinder pushrod had blasted through the relatively new fork, but closer inspection revealed that the fork was fine. The slave cylinder is supposed to have a hard rubber plug on the nose of that pushrod. Mine was so old that the rubber had disintegrated and left only the metal - and the metal rod itself is just small enough to push through the fork.

In my case, I just bought a new slave cylinder; the fluid that came out of the old one was very rusty and showed signs of contamination, no surprise given its apparent age.
