View Full Version : Why hello there, XC90. What are you doing in my driveway?
We're on an extended test drive of a 2006 XC90 2.5T FWD. It has the wood steering wheel, climate package, premium package, and the DVD player. We like it a lot, my mom especially, considering it'll be her car. We're pretty much set on the XC90 now, just have to find the right now. This one may be it, it may not be.
PICS. I realize they suck.

Practically and if financially possible I would like a 2.5T 90 to be my next vehicle...Love the color and interior...only thing I would change is i'd have the AWD version not just FWD cause of the snow up here in NJ which I realize you will never probably have in Texas....the other thing I would change is the ^^^^wood steering wheel...WHen I worked at a volvo dealership and brought in the cars to the shop the wooden steering wheel would burn my hands...this would definately be a problem for you in texas ....fortunately all our transport vehicles had leather wheels
It has been a bit chilly today, so the wood steering wheel has been nice and well, not hot. In the long run, though, you're probably right. The wood steering wheel is very nice to hold, though.

you WILL buy that one.
2006 2.5t is going to be the most reliable breed out there.

I can never get over that center console setup. It makes me feel like I'm constantly falling forward. Never had that experience in any other car.

Should be okay as long as it isn't a T6.

AWD models are more expensive and less available. They also have additional running costs. There's nothing wrong with a FWD SUV that gets similar mileage as our Accord V6.

Hey whatever you like. me, I'd be looking at s60s or v70s...
But that's more out of a deep seated hatred for all things SUV.
Not to mention those are every bit as nice, well appointed, comfortable etc. and they actually look good, and get decent mileage.

I'm a tech at the dealer here in Winnipeg Canada. I have only every seen ONE FWD XC90, and he brought it up from Florida. Funny how you say AWD is rare and I say FWD is rare.
But really, that should be a solid one.

I'd say that the 2.5T FWD XC90 will be a pretty safe bet and quite a good car too.
I actually havent driven one before, but I know a few people who own them who think they're fantastic.
Regardless, it has to be better than the POS Ford Territory that I'm driving at the moment. :-P
For the americans, heres a pic of a Territory -

Mine is a 2005 model and has been recalled 4 times for various issues. Build quality is poor and fuel consumption is awful.

They are a great car the XC90,dont really give any problems.
The T6 do but 2.5 are fine.
We only get 4wd ones over here,so i cant say how the 2wd ones go...but they are very reliable

I didn't even know they made these in FWD. Seems a bit silly to me, but then Volvo doesn't have a minivan to offer to those who want a V70 but need a third row. Shouldn't they lower the FWD model a bit, as per the awesome race-taxi above, and call it "V90"? Nobody aside from us remembers the previous use of that badge anyway, and "XC" otherwise means "standard car, more ground clearance, AWD".
Nice '90, regardless. Clean and classy.

you all talk about rare xc90's, i've seen 3 diff ones somebody ordered with cloth seats, no sunroof, FWD and 2.5t... that's probably the most solid combination out there too, nothing to go wrong.

I will trade you, straight up, a mint condition leather wrapped steering wheel for your wood wheel.
Seriously.
That wood wheel is close to 500 dollars....my cost.

I've only seen one FWD up here in New Hampshire.(Well, I have seen a bunch that were AWD untill the bevel gear stripped out or the AWD control module crapped out.) If you don't need AWD, then go for it. Does it have the DSTC option? That would be a plus. 2.5t FWD is what I would buy. No T6 tranny to break every 50k,(along with the radiator and lines) no bevel gear to strip out. Lighter, better gas mileage than the AWD, good stuff.
