X-Posted on VS...I want to see both RWD and FWD cars there!!!
Meet at 11am in the parking lot of Bella Terra Mall in Huntington Beach. At the far end of the Mall (near Edinger and Center, where Pei Wei and Corner Bakery are), there's an old Montgomery Ward Auto Center/Garage that's been closed for several years. We will meet out front of that old garage:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=106446503846529789538.000477676f0057e39a10c&ll=33.732129
From there, at 12 noon, we'll head out on Beach Blvd to PCH. We'll go south to Laguna Beach and have lunch at Ruby's Autodiner in Laguna Beach:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=106446503846529789538.000477676f0057e39a10c&ll=33.519322
After that, we'll head back north on PCH toward the starting point and home from there. I'm working on a small wrenching GTG after lunch in Huntington Beach near the starting point...more to come if anything happens with that (if you live nearby and you have room to host a couple people tinkering on their cars, post up!). Also, feel free to invite non-Volvos!
Please post up and RSVP; I'll keep a list on the first post of who can make it. Hope to see you all there!

Well, there really aren't "backroads" on PCH...so this won't be a canyon run or anything. But we can extend the drive if there's interest!
PS...do any of you have ANY angle flanged turbos lying around (13G/T, 15G, 16T, etc)? If you have a complete turbo with an angle (or even a straight) flange, let me know if you can bring it. I'll buy it! PM me! Thanks!
PPS, I have Corbeau Forza seats and harnesses...pair of each...anybody interested in these? ****, may as well make this a SoCal swap meet. lol.

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be making it. Don't really feel like driving the 850R, and I highly doubt I'll get the wagon driving, "smogged" and registered in time.

I do have a 15G with the flat flange. Angle ones are from much later years, like 98 and up. I guess your 850 is in need of some turbo. And adapting a large T3 to the 850 is not that hard.

At least struts on the P1 and P2 platforms are silly easy to do compared to 240/740. Does any one know if dropping a rear axle onto the ground on the front flange can cause a noisy rear end. Just finished a rear axle swap and I dropped the axle two times from low heights. It slipped two times off the floor jack. I do not want to hear the methods on keeping one on a jack. I imagine I may need to have the ring and pinion reset. Thoughts?

Easier than you think. Unless you also want to modify the G80 to lock at higher speeds. That can take some time, but not that long.

What kinda noise does it make? Whine on accel? decel? bearing noise...different when you go right or left? I doubt it would hurt it dropping it from that height. Espically if it was already set up and ready to go in the car. Its prolly not set up right

It makes noise from low speed to high. It mostly whirrs, and it does not change when turning from right or left. It may be set up wrong. But since our axles use crush washers and after talking to two different axle shops, they both agreed that the gear lash is probably out. If I want it set up right, I would need to redo it. I am gonna drop the car off today and hopefully get it back tomorrow. I don't want to try and drive it until I know the gears are set right. If the bearings were worn, they usually dont make noise till higher in the speeds , like 30mph and up. My axle makes noise from 5mph and stays noisy even to 80. And when you press the gas or let off, it changes pitch. So, to me, it sounds like the pinion gear and ring gear are nowhere near where they need to be, and I have a shop I can walk to that can fix it. Still sucks how much it's gonna cost, but I cannot wait till I have the needed crush washers and in/lb gauge and other stuff to do it myself or with help from other members. PLus, if it takes an axle shop a few hours, it will probably take me much longer.

I would like to say off first that I finally did make it back home from San Diego.... The brushes on my voltage regular were rubbed down to where they were not touching the inner circle of the alternator.
Plus I had a blast meeting some new people
Oh man...I SO called it!!! I knew that's what it was! :) Did you find a new one, or just swap one over from someone's spare? I think they are normally 30-40 bucks or so from an alternator shop.

this ought to be interesting. I am still flat out amazed you pulled a 13.9 quarter on a 13C 940 at 100mph. Thats very impressive. I guess you had a VERY healthy motor.

It was a 15G...exact same setup as Gonzo's car. The only difference was (1) he doesn't have a DP, and (2) he doesn't have injectors.
Other than that...mod for mod, 13.9 @ 100 @ 18psi w/ 110 oct., stock tires, full weight. The 110 is worth a lot.

Well, I bought a new alternator from Autorip you off and put the voltage regular from that into mine.... seems stupid but It got me home. Im going to return that get my money back once I get a voltage regulator YADA and get my mo mo money back....:)
I couldnt believe how worn down the brushes were, i was basically driving off of my battery:wtf:

I've gone through voltage regs before in a couple other cars. Always made me happy to see that's what the problem was because it's cheaper and easier than an alternator. :)
You all better be planning to hit the drags on the 5th, it's our last chance for EvW '09 entries!

It was such a relief knowing that the part to replace was actually in my budget for once:rofl: I should be fine, Im not sure i'll have the clutch in by then but if people want to help lets say in a week or more then Im more then willing, I just need to get the flywheel done

Have you called them about the flywheel yet? Their turnaround is only a couple days. I'm sure we can get the labor part handled.
