Heres a shot of the current intake I have done for my car. It has the round to oval runners I want to do for the other 16v intake. This one is total custom for my vert setup, all the other will look like the 8v's that have currently been built.

On my late model 240 the cruise control actuator is under the dash and just directly pulls on the gas pedal - so there's no extra linkage stuff under the hood.

That's good to know.....can that be retro'd onto a 940? Ill still come up with something to mount it on the intake as an adendum......but my setup won't really take the stock stuff (I'm not running the spool) and the gas pedal option would be slick.

JohnMc
02-11-2011, 10:59 AM
Not sure - IIRC it's sort of integrated into the pedal cluster - and that wouldn't transfer over.

^ Bingo. Depending on my supplies at the time.....I can do a 960tb but them are 35 extra (depending on what I can buy them for).....but its complete as far as gaskets, throttle linkage, fuel rail and fittings (15.00 extra for the adapted metric fitting to use the stock fuel line). Its all setup for an auto tranny and Im lookin into a cruise control mount. The end user needs to mod there spool a little, and use the left handed linkage end for the throttle.....Its pretty much all there, ready to bolt on.

I found on my car, I needed to bend the dipstick tube towards the firewall a little and I had to run a smaller belt on the Alternator.

Sorry for the noobieism butwhat if I'm running a manual tranny?

Then you don't have to worry about mounting the kickdown cable.

Some cars have to have 3 cables hooked to the spool (pedal, cruise control, kickdown), some 2 (pedal, cruise control), some only 1 (pedal, with or without pedal-attached cruise control). He's saying the manifold are set up to handle the 3 cables situation.

So I have not forgotten about all of you....slowly I have been working on all the small parts. Im mocked up for 8 8v intakes and 8 16v intakes, tho I think 2 8v and 5 16v might be spoken for.....just wanted to let all those know, my car is almost running, and tho Ill be helping a friend with some wiring on 4 wheel drive, I be splitting my time between intakes and that.

Tomorrow might be out, since Im doing a timing belt and a little machining on my harmonic balancer.

But getting started back on these.

I just saw this....I can get you on a list. I have a group Im buidling now....pm me, and keep pming me. Gentle reminders are good!

Anyway, photobucket is down, Ill post in a while. I have the first groups runners all cut from the jig, and one set tapered to the oval opening of the 16v head. I had to make a jig to hold them since there bent today to get the setup to work properly when pressing.

Ill post pics later.

And tonight I think Im getting the injector bungs cut.

No Doo-wops this rear, its Rally America Oh-limp-us (spelling?).
Friday we're doing reconnaissence and tech, Saturday-Sunday rally.
I'm co-driving in Al Kun's --known round these parts as "Megulon-7" (or sMegulon) nice 240---he just got a GM T5 and 4.88 axle in the car, ought to scoot a bit better than 4.1.

The plenum section is all ready to weld on, just need to radius the trumpets and port the injector bung out of it.

towz-T
05-17-2011, 03:05 AM
Why do you use such thick metal?
Is it for easier welding? Because if see metal half as thick holding up to 5 bar in other applications.

nathaninwa
05-17-2011, 08:51 AM
There was some calculations back a while ago......and I forget the numbers but there's. A lot of pressure on the flat portion of the plenum. I have some test manifolds out there, me being one as well with a thinner plenum. Just giving it the time test. My name is on the product and I don't want any failures.

Everything from the 8v setup works here. small change to the plenum, and new intake flange, but all my jigs work. Does take a little longer to oval out the runners but its a nice transition and ports out nicely.

So the throttle/kickdown and 2.4 iac should still work with all this

Just a bump for this thread and an update that a few 16v intakes have made there way out. Plus I negotiated the front clip off a 240 today. Some members are wanting vertical 16v intake and headers to fit...., so I will get this here and will be able to better fit up and make some things. Ill make some vert mounts as well as keeping the tilted mounts....Ill also space some mounts to mimick a 7/9 series bay for header builds. Should make things alot easier.

VE was increased on the 8v motors too...about 400 rpm on a fairly stock engine. Wed have to look at Bergens dyno graphs to see a bigger change.

Nice to see it all coming together.....and we should call this an LFJ manifold, you did all the hard work in designing it!

Is your wideband logging correctly?

Yes, it is (AEM). Still need to refine the fuel map & WOT sliders for the change in flow, but that was only 2nd/3rd gear, when you get into 4th the AFR's drop into the high 11's, so I may have to lean it out some. Part load I have some rich areas that definitely need attention, but overall I'm happy with the direction it's taking. I'm hoping I get over my previous 355WHP at lower boost levels. Regardless, the car is a blast to drive, the powerband is pretty wide & feels better suited to the M66 gearing than it has in the past.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the improved breathing, it would be pointless running those rpms - when I dyno'd @355Whp this Spring, we went up to around 7K, but it stopped producing by 6.6K - not anymore! :)

how much complete 8v 940

Current pricing is 675 shipped in the US. Shipping out of the states is 650 plus actual.

They come complete, ready to bolt on. All you need is your injectors, and a 960tb. I have the tb sometimes....all are sale dependant.

16v intakes are the same price...a wee bit more work on the runner....but I enjoy building these.

At this point, no more intakes till I get my T56 in. Im finishing a group as we speak and need to wire a 4x thats in the garage. Then its onto my car!

Still need to talk about a simple DCOE manifold: flange --stub--flange.
No injector bungs. Maybe just 4 bumps for a balance manifold for MAP sensor.

Hey John, I did call twice before I left on my car building trip, no awnser. Things are crazy here too. I have found a lot of people think I do this for my day job, but actually I do this very limited on the side. Since the economy has picked up, were selling more boats and are actually back to 4 boats a year. At 3 boats we need 2 weldors, but I've been keeping up. So 10 plus hours a day and weekend work to stay on schedule here at work, then my all important family life. Daughter is just over 2 years old now and a joy to play with when I get home. I have my son every other week and them weekends are spent with him doing boy things. I do find time in the midst to get things done, buts its a half hour here and an hour there. I have a toyota pickup in the garage with a motor swap about half done for a friend, and helping another wire a 1jzgte in a beamer....thank goodness that's about done.

Really soon, I want to open my own company and do this on a daily basis, so the 5 hours I need to fab your intake would be easy to find! I really need the carb your going to use so I can make sure it fits when I'm done as I mentioned in earlier pms.

With my current schedule, it will be a few weeks before I can pull off an intake, I've been doing some prototype work for a firm and I have an order I'm currently filling with them.

Thanks for the message. Shipping has been around 120.00 to your area. Prices seem to fluctuate some too. Depending on how many I'm building at the time, it takes from 4 to 6 weeks to build an intake.

The 5cyl intake manifold Nathan built for me contributes to significant improvement in top end. I dyno'd last Tuesday (AWD) and you can see the HP does not drop off over 6,6k, which is the typical failing of the stock manifolds. The Spec Stage III+ clutch is slipping at peak torque, so we didn't go WOT until over 4500, hence the very low torque numbers. Blue line is 14psi, red is 18psi on PTE6262bb. 408AWD WHP @ 7,925rpm.
