What's the best way to find out if the MS board is okay and that it's only a wiring issue?

Hooked everything up temporarily. but MS board is not getting power

Hook it up to a stimulator.

Yep you will need a simulator to be sure.

The guys at DIY Auto Tune are great, I took my MS unit over to them (Russ) this week because I was having ignition and fuel problems and he tested the unit out for me at no cost.

But you said you ms unit is not getting power, check your grounds and your power cable. Also make sure that your DB-37 connections are clean and non of the solder points on touching.

So. The MS box does not work in friends car either. (my wiring is ok).

The LED's get power (but dont glow), and the board apparently gets power. BUt the computer cant recognize any com ports.

I've found that when MT and the firmware on the MS are wildly out of synch in terms of type and version, they might not talk to each other.

It did turn on the fuel pump and turn on his injectors.... but that's about it.

Jumper it and reflash it.

That sounds like what they do when they can't think of anything else to do (aka you do a reflash and forget to unplug the coil and injectors).

I'd to a jumper reflash to a known firmware version, then make sure MT is expecting the same version and try reconnecting.

It didnt click them on and off, which is what it usually does. It was just an open ground/short.

Bridged socket 12 and 13 on Processor plug. It was communicating.

THere is no communication WITH the processor ON the board. So I am suspecting fried processor.
Gotta find a replacement local somewhere.

did you try a jumpered reflash?

there is no communication. I can't reflash it when I can't talk to the processor. :-(

I had the same problem. A reflash worked. I made sure to get the corrisponding megatune version at the same time.

you can still force a reflash, the worst that happens is it doesn't work.. just because it's not communicating doesn't mean it's dead.

yeah there's a thread somewhere that says the forced reflash woke up a bunch of MS chips. The convo was between a bunch of bama rednecks.

Dunno, if that isn't working, that's about as basic as you can go. From there I guess you'd step back to doing basic board assembly checks?

I didn't build mine (thanks Kenny!) so I don't know too much about that.

Sounds like a dead processor. Order a replacement.
