View Full Version : UK Tbricks, BBQ Night and RWYB Santa Pod - Postponed - awaiting new date

**** Rededited due to moving date from January **********
This thread is for a UK Tbricks meet to be held down at mine on weekend of 20th and 21st Febuary 2010.
Saturday 20th will comprimise of meeting up at my house just outside of Bedford which also happens to be about 8miles from the Drag Strip.
We'll have all the usual crap from techincal talking (yes if you enjoy talking about the 150 small diffferences between model years of your car they'll be someone who'll listen), last minute readying of cars for the Pod, Taking the piss out of foggy, then around 3pm we'll head upto the pod to partake in the 4pm till 9pm RWYB session, it'll cost you £10 per person to get in and then if you want to race £10 for as many runs as you can get from 4pm till 9pm. ( don't know how busy it'll be as never done a late night session before but one can only hope its quiet)
Once the track shuts at 9pm, we'll high tail it out of there back to mine for some beers and BBQ in the evening.
Sunday we'll wake up, recover from hangovers and chat crap until i get fed up with you all and throw you out.
You will also need to bring your Driving licence with you if you wish to race. You won't harm your car as its essential like a normal traffic light grandprix, however if your ryan you'll probably break something.
I've also read on the santapod site that non running people can now pay £10 and they can do passenger rides up the strip with any car they choose (and allows them in there car) for the price.
**** Weather will be a permitting factor though ****. I may make some enquires into finding a Dyno locally if the weather is guarnteed to be ****e and we can do a dyno day instead, but theres no guarntees on that, hopefully the weather will be a goer.

meh :(
3 conditions,
student loan in the bank
wagon in reasonable running condition
set of scrub tyres supplied by local scrap yard
944 estate with 2T, m47, 16t (16psi kinda hits boost limitter fast then goes bumpy throttle on-off ride), blowing exhaust for extra power loss, possible crack in front anti roll bar linkage for that extra special clunky feel to corners, sunroof that doesn't close for extra drag.
All in I think a 13.9 1/4 mile - assuming the box doesn't fail on the 1st - 2nd gear change, or self destruct into 3rd.
Bet now!
foggyjames

Nowhere near a 13. I predict a 16...maybe a high 15. The only 13 so far was from Nick's 242 with ~250bhp plus a 50 shot (IIRC). That spec you've listed gives perhaps 220bhp, plus about 200kg more weight. BENCHRACE! :)

/\ Really? Awesome. Be good to see you.
I should be there but I think it will be very very very unlikely that I have anything to run. Maybe the t5 at a push if I have the cash. Pretty sure the 740 will still be off the road at that time.

This is the meet that should be focusing the Tbrickers to get some **** together and run them at the pod.
So no excuses get that 740 down here, even if foggy tows it down behind his R.

11-11-2009, 08:23 AM
But it wont be insured or taxed although the towing idea may fly. Not sure - depends in what state the car is in. Needs a new turbo and bits.
May time may be a better idea for me as I will need dyno tunning as well. I'm pretty sure the 750 will be thrashing mine at that point anyway.

foggyjames

Well you might think that...but in practice, no. I think if you have sticky rubber and you get it nice & hot first, then it will grip better than tarmac...but with normal road tyres, you'll find it harder to launch than on-road.

Ok Guys looking to perhaps reschedule this meet due to the crappy weather were having.
Potential new date is Saturday 20th Febuary.
As the Pod is doing a RWYB Saturday Night special. If we sign on at 4pm to 9pm it will only cost £10 per car, plus personal entrance fee. (compared to £25sign on fee)
We could drag race then until the track shuts and then decamp to mine for drinking and what there after.
The extra time before this meet happens might actually give me a chance to finish the 750 thats if it actually thaws out.

I'm slowly working on a slightly nuts idea involving bringing my 343 down on a trailer that day, running it at the strip (with no doors, wings, or windscreen), then carrying on to the bodyshop drop-off that night. It'll mean missing the party, but that's right around the time it'll need to be heading south.
Or, alternatively, I could not be a retard, do the shifting the week before / after, and wait to run the 343 later in the year. Are slicks allowed at a RWYB, btw?

On a slightly unrelated note might any of you guys be interested (or know anybody interested) in a 340? More details to follow but it's done 35,000 miles genuine and has an immaculate full leather interior. Won't be looking at a lot of money either.

foggyjames
01-15-2010, 07:32 PM
"In storage" is the official Foggy term for "oh balls, this one is rusty too"...very few of them are broken. I think the 360 GLT is currently the only non-runner (except my original 360, which is a rolling shell at the moment), and that will be getting fixed as soon as the weather gets a bit better...quite possibly in the next couple of weeks.
The good news is that an unexpected expenses cheque is likely to see enough spare funds for welding goodies. Booyah!

I may have to bring out my new piece of american muscle to run up the strip if the 750R still isnt done.
Thats if i can fix the yanky piece of crap as its allready broken down, true to form.
MrT_VolvoDestroyer
01-18-2010, 05:21 AM
speaking of break downs...
heard a tinkle yesterday while i was going about a sat nav adventure of local truck scrap yards. (all closed of course just looking to see if there were any with trucks in them for this week).
Anyway, tinkle clak then silent. Sweet. :)
a few minutes later I notice I have only stock boost. Pull over to look, all vac lines are in place, boost controller unit has power. hmm.
Still nothing beyond stock so i engage limp home mode.
On getting back to the flat in discover an exhaust manifold bolt (which had sheared off in the past during a rebuild and been replaced in my usual ghetto way(loosely fitting bolt)) had disappeared.
No bolt = no boost = no pod :( No point going if the max boost i get on spike is 7psi.
So, the right thing to do at this stage is strip down, drill and tap the block where needed. (I'd red silicon and chemical metal it but it'd blow out straight away)
--------/////-------
So,
Any of you uk guys know someone near Sheffield, or have the ways and means of doing it? This needs sorting.
Alternatively I'd be tempted to ask if anyone has a spare b200ft head so i can just replace the whole thing.
Many thanks.
Theo.

Yep, its really annoying not being able to lock it from the drivers door, so i leave it unlocked and still no one nicks it.
Also the alternator belt makes a whirring noise that makes people turn round.
The 17mpg it does isnt great, seeing as it seems to give 45mpg performance.
I've now fixed my recently purchased non running yank motor. So the back up motor is now available.

Yeah theres floor space available for you and your friend. (as long as he's not a dodgy type)

Are you in a position to divulge the identity of the yank motor, Mr Chesh?
That 850 must be bollocksed. 17MPG is a pretty good effort unless you're purely driving in traffic, or constantly thrashing it, and I'd say a T5 would have to be quite broken to give 45mpg performance. 45mpg traction, maybe...

He's going for a change of image, a pink 850 is too effeminate, and he couldn't really pull off the Lady Penelope look. Heels require too much practice!
Therefore he's bought a Lincoln town car and is growing a moustache. In future if we know him well we can call him Frank, otherwise its Mr Cannon. The name change is going through by deed poll as we speak.

I don't know if anyone is running anything, doubt i'd even run the jeep up there as its causing me grief at the moment.
It decided to imbolise itself after i finished work tonight.
Sirens blazing and a complete refusal to disarm the imboliser. The drivers door wasnt responding to the remote, but pressing unlock on the remote unlocked the other doors.
So with the limited tools in my possession i removed the door card and suddenly noticed that the alarm led stopped blinking, tried to start the car it started and the alarm went off, so threw door card in boot and drove home with the alarm blaring.
Sometimes i think it would just be easier to put the thing down with the gun.

It looks unlikely that the Lincoln Liberation Front will have anything to bring unless DBS brings a 940. By early summer both myself and Ryan should have our cars up and running, so I'd be down for another visit later in the year.

I take it the 750 and the 700R aren't going to be ready for this event, but it seems that there are a few other cars that could run. Does this mean that;
a) The meet will go ahead, but the two fastest cars won't run.
b) The meet will go ahead, but as a social event only with no Pod run
c) The meet will get postponed.
Idea, thoughts, guesses, ramblings etc please gentlelemons.

to be totally honest i agree with C
as given another month maybe 2 (as i`m broke this month!!) the 740RS will probably be on the road as shes in a state of masking tape and wires all over engines built and manifolds been well bits are there to weld!
so i guess a slight postponement would be good all round as the 3 fastest t'bricks cars would* be ready

+1, this. Aside from the 'big boys' put down, that is...
We can't just keep putting it off; it'll be a laugh socially anyway.

Lol, she's a flying machine! It's a B230E, don't know exactly which box (auto, does over 50mph in 1st...), no idea on weight either as it has the standard 740 chassis plate...can't be light though!
I take it this is all still on then? I'm going to get the bottle filled in the next few days if so...

I say ride, that way it'll be a battle between murple and wagon to see who bottles on boost first for the win.
Ho hum.
P.S. Chris (Ozzy) Thanks man, you rock!! Sooo much help, and soooo many lametard problems you solved for me. Thanks.

I'm up for a social meet. There is a another volvo drag day happened at Shakespear at the end of may which may be a good deadline for the everyone to aim at. I just need to lock James in the garage with some wire and solder and supply food in the evenings.

Ah, a 230 isn't so bad then. I'm up for driving the limo if the offer stands Ben!
Don't go buggering up that nice new engine Theo! Ozzy's been telling me he thinks it might have been re-conned not long ago. The extra cubes and lower kerb weight will probably see Ozzy winning anyway, to be honest...
Ah, the benchracing begins! :)

Edit> Thanks also owed to Foggyjames for the engine. hehe without you i'd still be rolling around with a tractor like sounding bent rod 200ft hehe
Many thanks.
BTW, perhaps you could figure out how I'm gonna get an m90 all in for a typical turbobricks budget of next to nothing, lol.
Really guys, you've both been splendid this week, one for parts and one for hours. :) SCHWEET!!
Bench race eh?
If i remove all the junk out of my wagon I'l pull a 0-60 in under the 6.5sec i did earlier (10psi 16t with limiter set to 12psi). Of course Chris's is faster but I have the power of cable ties and rape tape on my side, Chris has a clean, nice looking daily, I have something else :)
Yes I Know, the bench race says I loose, but maybe Chris will break something before I do.
Thanks James, Thanks Chris, Thanks Chris's folks, and sorry Chris's missus hehe (3 late nights he spent with me rather than ramming her intake with skin flute)

No worries bud. I was greatly amused by watching Ozzy's cogs turning when he realised both 360s had 2.0s in, and a plan was soon formed :) They just don't go wrong in 360s, so they're not worth much to me...except the bits that you have to remove for 2/7/900 series fitment, so everyone's happy!
I've got a pile of M90s, but they all owe me at least some money. Ozzy has at least one, too. I'm sure we'll work something out. I think I mentioned prices to Ozzy. If you're happy with a potentially dubious one (bearing in mind Ryan's one had over 300k on it when it went in, and it's had 300lbft shove up its stuff ever since, and a sinter clutch for the last year), I've got a couple which aren't in the best of shape for shipping over the pond, and can be had for (relatively) cheap.

You are welcome to borrow it! That will, however, involve you getting it from here to there and then back here again. I may be able to bring you here/take you back after if that helps but it's a hell of a journey! Limo would make an amazing video...

I'm in...
Leaving Sheffield around 1200hrs. Get to Cheshs place close to 3pm, assuming the M1 isn't still closed southbound as it was in September.
I reckon I'll swing by on Mr and Mrs Ozzy and we can start a convoy.
I'm gonna go ahead and apologise in advance for the CRX which wants to come play (much hanging of head in shame)
Also Wagonracer (aka Joni) is gonna head down in his rather tastey Opel Manta so if no one else is there the four (five with Mrs Ozzy) of us will brake my car and limp on home our separate ways afterwards.
:)
So, SteveP> I'm in, you're in (uhuhuh urine), so wont be all alone.Be nice to have a fast Volvo there though.

Ok Guys
Along with the dubious weather thats forecast for the weekend and some issues that have happened here that are out of my control I'm afraid i'm going to have to cancel the meet.
Sorry to do so, but the weather was always going to be a factor and with some of the mutterings in this thread, I think its best if we give it a couple of months for it to warm up and that will also give extra time to get some cars ready for the strip so that the pod trip would be more worthwhile.
If you've read this, then spread the word to fellow brickers in conversation.
I will endeavour to text as many brickers as i can in the morning to let them know the meet is off.
Ryan please change the title to Postponed , awaiting new date.

Ultimately though it's Chesh's call as it's his meet and hosted at his place. It's a shame we're not even going to meet up for the social side of things because at least that way if the weather does clear (you know what these forecasts are like!) we can run, if not more beer!!
Nevermind, there's always next month, although the 14th is the V3M meet in York and the 27/28th is the VOC AGM which requires some of our presences. April?

I'm afraid the weather forecast was the final tipping point. My parents are none to well at the moment which means they won't be going on the weekend away to budapest I had got them.
And thanks to easy jets policy's or my work schedule I can't even use tickets. I will be away for most of march but will look to re schedule the meet sometime in april and have a running 750 for it

Well there is no real reason why I should be there (and anyone who knows of one please keep quiet) but I am busy the coming weekend (at least I hope it will be) anyway.
However, since the VoC site is down because of a database crash, this message goes here. I have just found the scrapyard that is taking some of the Volvos from Kent UK in the scrappage scheme. I just got a set of four 6x15x20 Virgos with good Pirellis for £65!
nyway, I am going back later this week to pull all the 740/940 facelift headlights and headight wipers and sidelights and taillights for my own stockpile, and I will check but I think there are two M90s there, and the owner said he would pull gearbox and propshaft if required (assuming you pay a reasonable price for them of course, and if you collect). I have three M90s already (plus one in a car)!
Is anyone interested? I'm thinking you should offer the man about £200 for a box and prop. Let me know and I will put you in touch.
No, there are no B234s in there, or I would have had them already. But there are some little mitsu turbos.

Ok depending on how things turn out in the next month or so, I'm going to tentatively offer up the weekend of May 22nd & 23rd as a new date.
How does that sound for folks, the RWYB would be on the saturday, or depending if people dont mind paying a bit more for dedicated track time we could go to the pod on Sunday but the RWYB is higher in cost.
See www.rwyb.co.uk for more details.

No. Actually was my old redblock in the days before a fuel pressure gauge (oops).
That lovely shiny b200+T seems to be content, with the occasional spike to 16.5 PSI due to cold weather and one spectacular spike to 19.6 PSI (oops) due to vacuum hose for actuator being left rubbing against water pump belt (oops).
Still, I'm generally taking it easy, got oil cooler mounted with some shiny gauges for temp and my working backwards oil pressure gauge - kinda matches my make it up as you go along fuel gauge so not really worried about 'guesstimating' oil pressure.
Think i'm set at 2.8/9 bar with a RRFPR 1:1.4 ratio. (Splendid)
Many thanks again James.
Got some near assembly for M90 now, just have to whore myself to Ozzy for a couple of afternoons to 'borrow' some ancillaries (got box no linkage, prop or clutch hehe).
