I have heard that the 850 motor is only a few inches longer then a b20. if so has anyone thought about a 5 cylinder in a p1800. Has any one tried? or am I nucking futts.I have seen them in a 140.

I am sure that it can be done. I know that there are adapters to RWD trannies. And I have seen 122's with a lot bigger motors in them than that.

So yeah, your nuts, but in a good way.:-P

an 850 engine in a p1800 would be very very trick. you can get any engine(well pretty much) in a car, its just a matter of how much work you want to do. if i had the cash id do it.

Can't remember who, but some one on here was having a new crossmember made to accomodate a 5 cyl. The problem is the sump doesn't have a hump and won't clear the 1800 rather large member. Everything else is very compact and probably would work better than the b23/230 series of engines. But modifying such a critical component to the overall structure of the car must be done with car, but it certainly doesn't look impossible. Good luck.

I believe the guy lives in WA or OR too... maybe you can find him and check it out! I met him at the Olympia show last year.

I've seen pics of a blue 142 with the 5-cyl in it. I'm not sure where you can find them now. It looked real clean.
