View Full Version : PNW Dyno day - MARCH 27th!!
klr142
02-03-2010, 01:22 PM
I would like to arrange a dyno day at www.englishracing.net. They have a 4 wheel dyno with adjustable wheelbase, cost is $60 for three pulls, INCLUDING wideband and boost monitoring! If we get more than 20 confirmed cars we can get that entry price down to $50.
Great deal!
Let's do a Volvo day on Saturday, MARCH 27th!
(Our friends can come too, but if we don't have enough time for the other makes... Then they'll just have to sit back and watch...)
Who: Volvos! (and other cars, if friends of a Volvo owner...)
What: Dyno your car and see how much power you got!
When: March 27th, 2010 at 10AM(possible drag racing afterwards at PIR?! with late night SHARIS afterwards!?)
Where: http://englishracing.net/
English Racing's dyno facility
3315 NE 112th Ave
Vancouver, WA 98682
Why: Great time to get together during the 'off season'
Cost will be $60 for three pulls, and that includes monitoring boost levels as well as Air/Fuel ratios! If we get over 20 confirmed cars, the cost will be $50 per person!
Regarding tuning in between runs:
We can do limited tuning but that would be extra time so those guys would probably need to go through last maybe? Depending on how many extra pulls they need they will also need to pay a bit extra.

Dyno is an adjustable wheelbase 4 wheel dyno, so even our AWD friends can come!
Let's get this year started with a bang! Maybe we can do a dyno day in the fall/winter to see how much HP everyone's gained from their summer tinkering...
Here's a flyer from their dyno day they have going on this month, February 20th.

Let's do this!

cool people there, ive been there for some of the dyno days that Corksport put on.
think my car would do well with a slipping clutch, :-P

If we do it sometime in March that gives you a month to replace the clutch... :) It'd do better if you do that. Or you could turn the boost down... Probably wouldn't be as fun though.

sounds like fun! I'll probably bring the lexus or my wife's car. I'm not sure if I have an extra $100 for screwing around though to do both of them. wife is working, so probably my lexus if I can get the starter changed out. Will be interesting to see what it puts down. I'm guessing ~175-180 @wheels. Stock is 230hp. I'll actually be in town so it sounds like I can go pending not being broke!

Well the HUGE turbo is install on the Zee VW TurboDiesel. I'm continuing to tune the pump for max optimum engine performance. Not maxxing it. No way. I don't expect huge numbers. I'm hoping for a 120RWHP and 150RWTQ.
Thats a big expectation I feel for this engine considering I am still using stock pump cam, stock injectors that are 160k old. No porting, just turbo work, intake work, IC work, and exhaust work.
stock these D24T's were sitting at 103hp and I believe that was crank hp, and 139tq. numbers straight from the Volvo Green book. stock boost is also 9~11psi. I'll be running around 13~15psi when I dyno. Should be fun!! Also I will be burning B99 biofuel when dynoing because I run it normally. I do notice MORE power with normal Diesel. but I hate running normal diesel, smokes too much and stinks like ass.

Sorry I failed to get in this thread earlier. We look forward to all that can make it to dyno and all those that wanna be there to hang out and cheer/jeer their friends.
For those wanting to tune, we usually do anything over 3 pulls as a 100 for an hour. Its up to you if you think the car is done or not but I find that unless there are odd problems most cars are good to go withing 6-8 pulls. We have fans to keep the intercoolers cold and a water sprayer to help as well.
Thanks

Tom, the only fluid you could possibly need to change is your oil. That's a 15 minute job, I have faith that you can get it done! We can do a third gear pull, no problem. If it slips at whatever boost you're currently running we can just turn it down a smidge more. NO PROBLEM. Let's do it!

Sweet. And, unsweet. What kind of oil filter are you using?!? Remember not to gorilla it on there, too.Done!
just the mann one. and of course i dont gorilla it on there, c'mon now. :-P
it literally bakes on, sitting there all nice and warm under my exhaust mani. i was gonna get a strap wrench to try to get it off. last time i changed my oil i didnt have time to monkey with it so, new oil, old filter.
there's not enough space behind it to get a wrench on because of the 3" dp.

not enough room. tried the screw driver once, thats how the housing came off of the filter....
I've only had to do it once, and it worked great. I think I used a hammer too.

Flathead screwdriver works much better. The trick is to point the screwdriver at the BASE of the filter, and tap on it at an angle towards the rotation of getting the filter off. A few taps should get the thing starting to turn(if you really can't get it loose), and then you can finish it by hand. I used to have to use this sort of method on POS Peugots I used to change the oil on when I worked at Eurocar.

Ooooooh jeez. What car?
The laser. I'm not sure but I'm trying to source a bigger turbo since I just pulled the one that's on it for inspection. If i can find a 'big' 16g then that's going on but there's only a couple days left for my hunt.
The 'small' 16g suits it really well for 2liters cammed to all hell but room for improvement is always good.
Hows your car doing? Gonna lay down some good numbers?

Depends on how you make it... The only piece that is ceramic w/ the perrin one is the ball itself... What gets spikey is if your home made controller is a bleed, and not a ball and spring.

Awww shucks. I wont say I am great but I do what I do well. I am actually very jealous of the 16v intake ports. I have about 4 days worth of welding and reshaping to get a Mitsu to match and even then it might not be possible. They remind me of some streetbikes and an indy motor I have seen. The entry angle is totally unbelievable.

That 531 is the sweet head I welded the port up on tonight......hehe
And I think keeping the straight runners will make for a good first try....Im going to try and roll the intake plenum a little....nothing major. But it needs to look good, and having the injectors on the bottom, well the theyll hav to be offset to the sides of the runner a little, the flange bolt is right in the way to have them centered.

Just hold out for a dyno day, check other forums, or schedule a private dyno session? In any case, it'll be worth the cost (unless you're me, putting a NOW guestimated 75 to the wheels)

well, after all my spirited driving this week making sure the engine can handle 16ish psi, im now ready and have a lot less life in that one rear tire that spins all the time. :)

MS issues oh my! Eff. Hopefully can get it sorted, but i'm hitting a wall at 4100 rpm, but hopefully will have that sorted out by saturday. If vurbo does make it down, I think I'm just going to see what she'll do on stock boost level... of course I say that now, but will probably be singing a different tune if its running well.

Kyle you can take me off the maybe list. Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it down that day. Rechecked the calendar for that day and forgot my wife is off volunteering planting trees that morning until 1:00 so I'll have my son and then I have to DJ a party that evening that I have to get equipment ready/loaded for.
If my boy was bigger I'd bring him, but I think a dyno is a bit loud for an 11 month old. Even though I know he'd LOVE it  He's a boy through and through -- if it's loud, shiny or has boobs, he loves it :zeeall:

argh! I'm trying to get the sc running to make it, Another $100 starter and now I need another $100 battery! :-( I really want to dyno my car...We will see if I can get it up and going tomorrow. Threw almost $1k at the Volvo and sc300 this month and neither of them run well enough to drive over there. The 242 mysteriously died last week too. Drove to work fine, now won't start. Fml. :-(
