That IMO that is 900 series Volvo, not a 700 series, Volvo unless some went majorly insane, it would be far far less work to start with a 900 series body than to convert the roof and rear sheet metal over.

I agree with you the roof line the trunk and all that to mcuh work considering you can buy a 960 or S90 lets see underhood that will tell.

I dont know, it probably was a 760 and he just wanted to do it. Its like us, we take these volvos, turbo them, fix them up, and probably spend alot more then it would have been to just buy a turbo volvo in the first place. Why? Fun, sentimental value, challenge? Its like those people that buy skylarks, then spend so much time and effort to make them gs clones, when it would have been easier just to buy a gs. Its like that with any car.

im sure he's quite an auto body guru... and had access to some parts cars. Its not my style of paint and that totally kills it for me, but i must say it is an amazing car... especially to hear what (at least the VIN's) say it was before.

The answer to your question is in the original post...
Volvo V6 is gone and know there is a 850 R Engine engine with a lot of specs.
This is probably one of the few modified cars that can legitimately put the "R" label on it.

Can't read the center cap clearly on my screen, anyone know what wheels those are?
Look like the ones someone posted a link to that were $1200 a set, but these are probably more.
Just wondering.
Definitely a nice car. I like the paint, but a nice dark blue or black would've set it fine.
The paint totally finishes the car. It looks great, and im usually not a fan of color change either. But it definetly is working for that one.

This is why I wanted a 1991 940 turbo. To do that to it. I thought people have seen the orgasmic car before.

This car is definently a 960 or S90.Volvo did NOT use that style ABS pump on older 760's.And if I remember correctly they were mounted on the driver side of USA 760's .

I'd rather have....hmm, some ATS 17x7 Planets ;)
Oh wait...I do :) Nice wheels on the yellow 240, by the way ;)
$10k US is insane for wheels.
But they do look the part, and if i won the lotto i'd be all over them.
It is a swift car regardless if its a 960/S90 or 760.

Todd, wouldn't the above tell its a 760? If it was first in traffic 12/21/87 and registered 12/17/87?

They probably took the VIN from a 760 and registered it as such to get away with some local emissions loop hole like maybe running the car without a cat and not having to do emissions tests. Most cars in Europe in the 1980s did not have to meet emissions standards. Call it a 760 and you get away with a lot more. You just have to keep your story consistent.

uhm, cars from 1988 requires a catalyst in sweden
edit, also, why would he go trough so much trouble instead of just buying a racing catalyst for $300?
edit2: my mistake, the catalyst law came in 1989, but if the car was register with a catalyst before that year it must have it now

Another thing.
The Engine is a 850 R engine and you HAVE to take all the components from that engine to be able to get it through the swedish SBP if you put in a 760. So the cat is on that car.

I stand corected. Do they do a smog check in sweden on a anual or bi anual basis?
I just don't see the advantage to starting out with a 760 in order to build an S90 unless there is some kind of legal loop hole to doing it. Its so much extra work for nothing. The ABS unit is a dead give away that this in deed is a 960 or S90. There is no reason to swap that.
That said, this is the most awsome 700/900 I have ever seen.
Edit: i see there is no passenger side air bag. I guess I was wrong.

I believe it the reason they fix up the older models is to get around other laws about modifieng a car that is newer.Maybe volvo240tic can elaborate on this.Words can not describe what I say about this car I want to commend the person who spent the huge amount of time creating a truely one of a kind car....He made the most out of the LOOOOOONG Swedish winters.....

he most likely got a cheap 760, put a s90 front on it, voila "mk1" is finished, but wait, its not enough, he decides to change more, and more, and more, and finaly at this point its finished, this sort of evolving projects is very common in sweden, not many ppl buy a car just to make one specific thing, they usaly start out with some minor mods then go "bigger"

they have MOT test every year (where smogtest is included), only brand new cars and cars older then 30 years have MOT test every other year, cars older then 1955 (i think) have no MOT at all (thats becouse we didnt have a MOT test before that point)
volvo240tic

Zeall>>> Smogtest ( co test ) is on all cars after 1975.
The first volvo 240 is cleared from that test so you can put any engine that you want more or less in a 75.
Anders that made this S90 R had an old 760 and got hold of a smashed 960 i belive it was. So he took the rear of the 960 and broaden it 4-5 cm per side to get those wheels in.
Then he chaged the front to an 960 front.
I have personally seen the pictures from the reconstruction of this car so a can promise you all that this is a 760 from the bottom.
The interior is from a newer 960.

funny that as UK Mot rules are emissions are baised on which ever is older. so if you put a B23ET in a 1998 940 you no long need a CAT or **** like that as it becomes exempt (cats came in in 1992 here)
