Hey guys,

Starting to modify my new (to me) 1983 242 Ti.

I just ordered a set of GT (original) upper strut braces. Still looking for a used set of GT lower braces.

I was searching the IPD website and it has strut plates and strut mounts for sale.

Is it the way they word it, or are both of these necessary in order to install these GT upper strut braces? I can't seem to figure it out through searching the boards.

Eventually I will install a strut tower brace - but until I can find a cheap one (under $100 - anyone know of one?) - I will hold off. I'm not sure if the future addition of the strut brace will change the answer to this question regarding the strut plates and strut mounts, so please keep that in mind.

Thanks for your input,
Taylor

PS- I do not want to have to remove/change my struts or springs right now. Thanks again

You will not need to purchase the strut mounts and strut plates in order to install your top braces. Your car should already have strut plates and mounts. If you look at your strut tower, the three bolts sticking through, and the rubber that the shock is bolted to IS the strut mount. Your model should already have a metal reinforcement plate about 4mm thick sandwiched between the strut mount and the strut tower.

I hope this clears things up for you!

well....concerning the upper GT brace, you don't need to replace anything that has to do with the strut plate or mount. but if you are going to be getting/making (i recommend making your own, so you can add a cross bar[ie: cheaper too.].) lower GT brace, it is recommended that you either have or get the strut plate. but if you're gonna put in the strut plate if you don't already have it......might wanna go about replacing the struts, strut mounts if the are worn that is.

here's a link talking about the lower chasis brace. there's a picture of mine on there too, i made mine. good info there too!
