I still stand behind my statement that the only thing 740 Turbos are good for is to have the drive train yanked and put in to a good Volvo (read 240) and then be crushed and made in to tuna cans.

He's trying to call out all the 240 lovers to see what other dumb reasons they think a 240 is da sheet.

It's cool that you want to keep your junky 240 running and on the road, and even cooler that you want to use a real volvo motor from a real volvo. One that just keeps going...

i had no problems with my 740, it was junky, falling apart, and not something to look at. but it got me around for a couple years. have 200s now, love them. but i do like the 940s also.

but, there is a reason you dont see as many 700s around anymore...

professor245
02-26-2011, 01:05 PM
Ahhh again...they are all good...

but 240 is somethin special, the combo of ruggedness, some curves here and there, oversteer instead of understeer...win.

i would never trade my 700s for a 200 never

for me they are ugly and allways a pain to work with because they are all tried and have been fixed with hack jobs and they are not square enough for me i love the real bricks

I think 240s are far better looking but can't argue with the fact that 740s are usually in better condition (around here, at least), feel more refined and spacious inside and have more a spacious engine bay.

miguel.760ti
02-26-2011, 09:51 PM
7/9's are so much more refined than 240's, when you ride in a 20 year old 240 you feel like you're in a 20 year old car, when you ride in a 20 year old 740, you feel like you're riding in a car that's less than 20 years old.

cookieboy

I've never driven a 740, so I couldn't say... In times past I wouldn't have even considered one, (I only had eyes for 140/240's) but I like them now as much as my 240 and I would be just as willing to look for a 740 as a 240 if I ever needed another car.

Cones isn't racing.

They stuck with the 2xx because the 7 was just coming out when they started racing the 2. Keep with what you already know.

Regardless, if they thought the 7xx to be a better racing chassis it would have been used.

7xx/9xx are great for what they are.. a comfier and roomier car for the commuter.

It's all about perspective, what's better to YOU. As long as one's needs are met, the rest is bollocks.

all cars have pros and cons

personally i loved my old 745, it was a great car for me and my family for about 10 years. i do miss it, but it was its time to go.

i have 200s now, mainly because i got a 244tic free, then decided to pick up a 242 to have a project car, and a decent parts car.

Both series are cheap enough everyone should experience both.

For the OP this thread isn't about liking 700/900 series better than 200 series. It's about not hating 700/900 series cars. He has 3 245s and a real nice 745. Same with me. I have 1 242, 1 Bertone Coupe, 1 945 for my shop car and a 965 for a DD and long trips.
