I dont often post in here, but I figured I would today. Not so much for the photos themselves, but rather to share a pretty good day I had yesterday with my Dad.

I'm getting married in two weeks time and we're going to use my 240 as one of the wedding cars.
This particular 240 is actually quite special to me, and its only fairly recently that I've come to this realisation.
My Dad and I built this one in 2001 and really its the last project of any significance/scaled that we'll be able to do together.
At the time I hadnt long finished university - I was working my first 'career' job and I was living at home again after being away for 3 years or so at uni.

We spent a lot of time working, pondering, laughing and talking about life in general.

I've long since moved away from the family home, life has changed a lot, my Dad is getting older, we're both doing our own thing etc, etc.

The 240 was used as a road car for a while, then used for track days, hillclimbs, motorkhanas, supersprints etc and it has evolved over time.

The motorsports stuff has taken its toll on it. It's had a couple of significant revamps, panel gaps arent what they used to be, etc but its been a lot of fun and a good focal point for us.

The paint on the LF was pretty ratty from having the timing transponder (for our track days) stuck to it and removed over and over, the panel under the headlights is covered in gravel rash and I always wanted to fill in the damn headlight wiper holes.

Here's a few pics from a really fun few hours working on the 240 again with my Dad. We chatted about anything and everything, laughed, swore and remembered doing a similar sort of thing on many previous occasions -

Had to drive up onto blocks of wood so we could get the jack under it.

http://www.dvs.net.au/misc/feb112.jpg

Front bumper and spoiler comes off in one piece. I forgot how easy it was to remove.

http://www.dvs.net.au/misc/feb113.jpg

Bumper mould off, starting to remove headlights.

Headlights out. Filling the wiper holes.

http://www.dvs.net.au/misc/feb115.jpg

Dad doing some cleanup. He's probably a lot greyer than last time he spent any time on this thing.

http://www.dvs.net.au/misc/feb116.jpg

Headlights loosely back in to head over to the bodyshop. LH guard clean with moulds removed.

http://www.dvs.net.au/misc/feb117.jpg

Ready to go.

Out the front of the bodyshop.

It wasnt any major work or anything, just fun to have a good excuse to spend some time working on something together.

Currently debating whether to do an SR20 conversion, an LS1 conversion or put a decent ECU (probably Autronic SMC or maybe SM4) and another head on it with a view to building another motor and turbo-ing that.

wouldnt you be better off keeping it as a Volvo, and work the aftermarket EMS, and find another one to do the SR20DET or LS1 conversion???

Maybe.
SR20s here are plentiful, have really good aftermarket and in something as light as my 240 would be awesome.
The limiting factor is gearbox location in the tunnel. I need some more pics of peoples cars who've done it to decide if its a path I want to head down.

In the short term I think I'll put a KG8 cam in the engine I have and possible build a better head and run it all with Autronic - should make a solid difference.

I dont want to start another ground up build at the moment. I could store it but dont have access to the space to work on it as my place is full of other stuff that isnt moving anywhere in a hurry. I'd like to buy a smallish factory and lease half of it out and keep the other half myself, but not ready to do that yet.

For a while at least, it was kinda like an addiction to me!

Maybe, my only worry is transmission location may mean the engine is further forward than I'd like.
Balance is REALLY good at the moment, so I dont want to upset that anymore than necessary.

The last photo is from a track day at Calder Park in 2005; pre coilovers, mazda rx7 caliper conversion.
You can also see there is no tow hook in the front bar.

The clubs I was competing in made it mandatory to have a front and rear tow hook.
Since we'd removed the rear one to run the exhaust out the RHS we needed to mount one elsewhere.
Tow hooks must be either red or have an arrow pointing to them and the word 'tow' next to them.
These anodised red tow hooks were pretty neat.

The tow hooks I bought came as a pair and we anchored one to the rear bumper iron.
We'd previously had a few issues getting the car onto wheel alignment ramps due to the splitter and ride height so we made the front bar and splitter easily removable as a single assembly and mounted the newer tow hook at the same time.

It nice to see you kept yours

We started building it in 2001 and did heaps on in between then and 2006.
In 2007 we built a house and between mid 2008 and now I've been racing karts, so changes of significance are few and far between.

Was the Car Show on Channel 9.
We did a drag strip, circuit and a motorkhana - I did the worst drap strip run ever but somewhat redeemed myself with the circuit stuff.
Morley (the presenter) just loved bagging volvos!

Looking good...
What's the rough power from this setup?
Not many people go for NA on a 240...

I think about 180hp at the flywheel.

Odds are it wont stay N/A forever though.

he he.
Call the snail a 'solid maybe'
I'd say big cam and decent ECU are next, then I'll have another look at it all.

I've enjoyed mine so far, much fun to be had with aftermarket fuel computer and absurd cam.
~200hp and it's pretty nice.
Much more fun than say a ~350hp car that's not setup for it.

Most definately.
Mine's down to 1090kg now which makes it quite fun.

It got back from the body shop on Wednesday. I had a quick look at ot on Thursday and my Dad actually finished getting it back together on Friday.
Was kinda hoping we'd do it together but I'm pretty pushed for time at the moment, so it was nice of him to help out.

I'll pick it up from my parents place on Tuesday night.

The 240 is finished and back together again.
It still needs a wash, but if it doesnt rain I'll do that tomorrow.

Looks great ash, as always! Ive always wanted headlight wipers, simply so i didnt have the rubber grommets that look like there 'should' be something there.

Did you have a vid from your car on channel 9??

I'm more of a minimalist with this particular 240. I deliberately sought out one without electric windows etc.
When we do the cage, I'll get rid of the amp, stacker and the 6x9s which are still in the thing from when I used it as a DD.

I've got the carshow videos on DVD actually and I've also got some of the out-takes which are pretty kool - I had a MASSIVE lose with all the camera boom gear on/in the car during the circuit session which is in the out-take footage. Hilarious!

Our wedding is getting closer and closer now (it's on Sunday).
Today, amongst helping set up the tables at the reception, picking up the other wedding cars, cleaning the house, getting some last minute work done, and heaps of other stuff, I washed the 240.
It's now tucked away in the garage, waiting for Sunday.

Here's a pic

http://www.dvs.net.au/misc/mar112.jpg

For our wedding cars we've got the following -
* 1990 Volvo 240 - Red.
* 2008 Holden Commodore SSV Sedan - Red.
* 2008 Holden Commodore SSV Sedan - Black.
* 2009 Holden Commodore SV6 Sedan - Met Blue.

The SV6 is mine and the two SSVs I borrowed from our fleet at work.
My Dad is driving me to the ceremony in the 240. The other groomsmen are going in the Red SSV.
Jae (the wife to be) is going to the Ceremony in the Black SSV and the bridesmaids are going to the ceremony in my SV6.

I'll post pics at some point soon.
