Decks, Subwoofers, Speakers, iPod/iPhone, GPS.... I think you get the idea..
I'm curious :)

I want to put an Alpine cde-100 deck in my '88 740. They are very nice looking IMO.

My brother and I built a pretty big system in my 142s, unfortunately it did a fair bit of damage, I'm now minus a boot lock, had to expandafoam the rear panels above the wheel arches because they split, and bent my boot :/

The gear is:
Panasonic C8400 3x5v preamp headunit
Blaupunkt 5000W Monoblock
2x Fusion NV 12" @1100WRMS each in 6 cubit foot box (only a 142 can really fit that haha)
US Audio 1100W running:
4x JL-TR 6x9's, bloody nice speakers those
Also Fusion NV CMST-1 3way fronts (2 each of 6.5", 4"mid, tweeter)
120amp Landcruiser alternator and a light truck battery.
I've got a chrome 200amp mustang alternator to add .

Some old pictures lemme see
the 4 6x9's are on the parcel shelf

Just finished installing a whole new setup in my '81 245. Polk Audio DXi 4" in the doors and rear, a single Polk Audio DXi 10" SVC sub and a Polk Audio PA330 amp. All running off a Pioneer 3300 headunit. The sub and amp are all tucked away and with the speaker grills and the headunit in the lower console, it looks very clean and simple. The sound is more than enough to damage hearing, but still clear and full at lower volume levels.

Clarion CZ300 moved to the lower console and 2 pair of Pyle PL42BL 4" in the factory locations. Still needs a sub in the back to carry some bass but otherwise a surprisingly good sounding combination with less then $80 invested for the stereo and all 4 speakers.

I got an old but solid panasonic cd player up front that is going to get replaced soon when I find a good deal. 200W RMS amp for the 2 infinity 2-way 6x9s, a 600 W RMS alpine monoblock powering the 12 inch sony xplod sub. Got the lot, 2 amps + 2 6x9s + sub+box used for under a hundred bucks. The sub is only rated for 150 RMS, so the alpine amp is never turned up. I like just having nice bass, dont want to shake me or the car to pieces. Im still on the stock 55 Amp alternator, but I don't turn it up loud very often and its been ok so far. If I crank it then I can draw more than 40 Amps, but I don't usually do that.

Im interested as to where people mount 6x9s in their wagons. I have mine in boxes attached to the seatbelt posts in the back, works pretty good and they stay out of the way. I often sleep in the car and use it for camping/surfing trips so I try to keep as much room as possible free.

I put one of those in my old '80 Cougar. Decent low-end unit. I wanted it mainly for the AUX input.

I've got an older Alpine CDA-9801 in the '85 and one of those low-end Clarions (like OKflyBoy) in the '75.

soundquality is not really an issue when you play black metal and grindcore most of the time. if anything, a crappy stereo enhances the listening experience!

No pictars, but a 1998 vintage Alpine CD player with a pair of 5.25" Sony coaxials from 1989-90 in the doors (top-shelf model from that time period, deep bass), a pair of 6x9 Sony triaxials from 1998 in the back, powered by an Alpine 50Wx2 amp.

The '84 wagons have same vintage Alpine CD players, but only 4" coaxials in the doors. No rear speakers at the moment.

Pioneer MVH-P8200BT + ipod.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r60/mr740ti/765/960d-760.jpg

Synced up with my phone for true handsfree. FTMFW.

I actually bought it because it doesn't look ****ing stupid/riceboytastic. The illumination of the button text can be changed on a gradient scale to any shade of any color, so it can be matched perfectly to factory dash lighting.

Have a cheap Pioneer sub + amp I got at walmart (yeah, yeah, I know ) on clearance for cheaps. Will be hooked up when I get off my lazy ass and do it.

Also, I just realized that if I get pioneer speakers for the doors, I'll have an all Pioneer system. Baller, I guess?

The menu control took some getting used to. If you can't get past things like that, you probably wouldn't like it if you primarily use an ipod like I do.

that is what i read about the menu. i have the droid x phone and that is where almost all of my music is. i think i can get use to it because once you learn it then there shouldn't be any issue at all. i like the true hands free part of it because in AR it is illegal to talk or text now. looks great too.

It's an empeg with some long forgotten amp (Alpine, I think) and factory speakers. The empeg has a 160 gb hard drive in it, don't need no stinkin' iPod.

Thing is, if you hate the menu, you can always use Control Mode and use the ipod directly. Since I got used to the menu, I've found no need.

Bluetooth streaming audio pretty much eliminates that problem anyway...

Kenwood MP-538U headunit, AM/FM/CD Player, 22 watts RMS x 4, with EQ built in, and USB on a cable, which I hid in the crevice between the dash & 52mm gauge bezels. It was the unit right under the Excelon when I bought it, and had some specs better than the Excelon.

Kenwood 4" three way speakes in the OEM front door locations, using the early type grilles with Crutchfield speaker mounting plate(looks like the OEM Volvo 4" speaker mounts)

Kenwood 6X9" 5 way speakers, mounted in 6x9 speaker boxes, sitting on the rear package tray area.

I used all new heavy gauge wire, & wired it all myself. All things include I have about $250.00 in ALL this, by catching it on sale.

No amp installed... yet, though I have one. Maybe I'll hook it up later. Sounds good like it is now though. Louder than most can stand.

Hehe, we went a bit silly with the subwoofer box (post#2)
We actually screwed it down through the bottom to the car before sealing the tops on.
So you have to unscrew and jimmy bar it open to unscrew it to get it out, also a two person job :/

Plenty loud enough to blow me out of the car, and annoy passersby on the sidewalk. Is wired for an amp and sub but currently doesn't have one installed. Also that deck has the ipod input do it, but I don't have an ipod. Going to see if I can hook my droid up to it instead.

Just installed a Kenwood KDC-MP345U in the 164. It is hooked to A type of indoor / outdoor speakers that they previous owner installed in the door panels...
They actually don't sound half bad hooked up to the Kenwood

The 1991 245 has a 2-3 year old Blaupunkt CD player and stockish speakers

The 1980 245 has a cheap spark - o - matic cassette deck in it for now but I just got a inexpensive Clarion CZ300 for when it gets out of the body shop.
Looks like this

And the position of the radio will only work on a non A/C heater combo.

How much balls does that Pioneer have?

Balls??
It's louder than the noise of the car at 150 km/h.

It's a compromise of space and sound quality.
And i'm happy :)

Pioneer unit I bought a few years ago. Use it to watch porn at red lights. Stock speakers and no factory amp. It works and I can hear it on the 401 with the windows down, drone from side exit bouncing off concrete median and ear protectors on. If I don't wear the ear protectors, I'm almost def about an hour into a trip. I have to drive with the windows down because of the catch can set-up and it gets fcking hot inside

No MP3's. Not there yet, may never go there, audio compression and lack of good clean pure hi-fidelity sound, ya, know it.

Sounds like you've only ever heard 128kbps MP3s... I'm a picky mother****er when it comes to sound quality, but as long as an MP3 is 192kbps or up (preferably 256-320kbps) I don't have a problem.

Anyway, I just got a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT to replace the MVH-P8200BT. I'd rather have touch screen menus and an optical disc player, plus I've never thought the 760/960 console looks right with a single-DIN head unit in it.

Looks great.
That's one of the few aftermarket head units I've seen that doesn't look like a some weird kids toy with blinky flashing button filled nonsense. The only one Ive actually liked in the past 5 years has been the mcintosh overpriced nonsense stereo.

Deck is Kenwood as pictured:

That's a Kenwood KDC- MP 538U . 22 watts RMS x 4 with the built in "amp' on.

I have the same deck & it is a good one IMO too. Mine has a USB cable. So i can carry just bout all of my CDs already recorded on a 4 GB thumb drive. Great for ong trips & not have a car full of CD boxes.

That's precisely why I got it.
