Hello.

(New pictures on page 2)

Though I'd introduce myself with some pictures of my Volvo.

I grew up with Volvos, cause Volvo are one of my Dads' passions.
He currently owns a 740 GLE, a 240 GLE, a 164 from 75 and a PV 544(Wich acctually is his first car). And he's had a another 164 and 240 GLT.

So it wasn't a hard choice when it came to my very first car.
The car's a 945 Turbo from 1994, with the M90.
It's fitted with the Volvo Galaxy rims, wich are painted in the cars bars and "strips"
Other then that, it's been lowered about 40mm (Not shown on pictures) and a Pioneer player with JBL speakers.

Thanks everyone! :D

Here are my dads volvos that I mentioned before:

The 740, I do believe this had an earlier life as an diplomat-vehicle in the USA.
http://www1.garaget.org/archive/124/123116/161944/161944-1970902.jpg

The 240, has serviced as a emergency-car (http://www1.garaget.org/archive/124/123116/203100/203100-1907425.jpg) for the subways in Stockholm
http://www1.garaget.org/archive/124/123116/203100/203100-1907422.jpg

And the 164, imported aswell, if i remember correctly.

M90 is such a good gearbox, I drive it regularly on my buddy's 945T, very good gearing, but it can be screwed up if oil isn't regularly changed for a really quality one...I have plans on putting it in my 245 soon:oogle:

Not sure what the color is called, but I think the colorcode is 414-##, not sure about the two last digits, I'll have to check that!
It's a slight darker color than the "usual" wine red, it's a bit more brown-wine-red.

Thanks!

Thanks! Yea, they fit great and rides really good too.
Yes it is a factory color. I mentioned the colorcode above!

Yea, the M90 was one of my "must-have" when I was looking for a car to buy.
Gives the whole care a bit newer feeling with the knob.
And the fact it can handle a fair amount of horsepower is a good thing to ;)

Here's another shot, but from the back.
I've fitted the 960 doorhandle on the reardoor and of course the red-white-white-red tailgates.
The exhaust is a 2.5" from cat with a 3.5" blow-out from Ferritta, sounds awesome!

The last 2 digits of the paint code don't matter. They stipulate paint type and clear coat etc. The 414 is what I was after. I have a 1995 945 in the burgundy/"wine red" you mentioned. It's in my shop for a head gasket replacement. It should be done today and I will get to drive it for the fist time since buying it 6 months ago. I even have a set of Galaxy wheels I might put on it. Over here in the US, Galaxies are rare as "hens teeth".

Doorhandle looks great:nod: have you thought of changing other four door knobs on doors for S/V90 ones, looks much better, we just sourced out those parts for buddy's 945... also we found a tailgate spoiler from V90 looks soooooo nice, you should try it :-P

Acctually, I had the intake-plate (For the inside fan) just before the hood painted in 414, and it turned out a visable brighter color then it was supposed to. Then I it repainted for 414-##, and it matched the car exactly.
So there's some difference there.

Nice to hear you're getting your car back, bet you it's worth it while waiting! :oogle:
The Galaxys' are really nice, though I would love to have the Polaris 17", but they are really rare, even here.

The 2 litre 16V (B204) with and without turbo went to export to Italy, Holland, Belgium and Portugal.
It benifitted the manufacturer better to sell them with the 2.0, due to taxregulations.

The 740 GLTs are fitted with the 2.3 L 16V non turbo here in Sweden/rest of Europe/world. (B234)
Not sure why the 2.0 litre where available here.

With that said, I'll post what's up with my wagon at the time being.
The 15G turbo I had in mind got sold really quicky, to quick.
But I might have a 16T from the 97-98 V70 T5 insted, as long as it's not the angled exhaused house, I should be good.

The car is 200k+ miles, not that far, atleast not by our "swedish standard". It's just about to be run in. ;)

And here's the reason why I'm changing my turbo in the first place. Cracks, lovely cracks!

If I recall correctly, it's only the 99+ cars that have the angled flange on the turbo? The 16T you're looking at should be a straight flange. I'm looking at one too. :p

Great car!

My biggest concern is with the Downpipe, im not sure if I need a bigger one, or if the one that I already have will work.
Yeah, you are correct, the 97-98 have straight flange, more known as #6, while the angled are #7.

Here's some information from about what engine and what turbo is fitted:

The Galaxys' are really nice, though I would love to have the Polaris 17", but they are really rare, even here.

That is typical with any paint color. The last 2 digits merely state who the OEM paint supplier is, what type of paint it is and whether or not it is clear coated. They have zero effect on the color. The paint color varies quite a bit depending on how it is sprayed, which batch of paint etc. Anyone that paints for a living will testify to this fact. Code 406 blue metallic has 3 variations of the same color. Prime, bluer than prime, greener than prime. On top of that, you have the temp and humidity it is shot at, the number of coats of paint, application pressure etc. Without blending onto the surrounding panels, it is one in one thousand to get a perfect match.

I got my 940 running yesterday. I still have some more work to do before it exits the shop, however, I'm happy it is getting so close. It actually needs a repaint. That 418 wine red is one of the colors known for peeling clear coats and sure enough, mine is peeling.

Hm.. you're most likly right, I'm no paint. Might have been a fault by the guy who painted it.

Nice to hear, is it a wagon aswell?
A friend of mine had a 850 with the 418 (I think), and it had eaten through the clear coat pretty bad. A nice color never the less.

If you're curious, here is a link to info on Volvo paints used at the factory hosted by th VCOA. On this list your color 414 is referred to as Ruby red. As far as I know, no US destined 940s were painted that color. Notice on the application guide it says 960/850 models were painted that color. No mention of 940s. Volvo used different colors depending on the market they were targeting.

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/paint_colour_codes.shtml

Yes, mine is a wagon, very much like yours. It has the low profile roof rails and glass moon roof. I hope to find a set of the E-code lights like those on your car. I think those really change the overall look of the car.

Thefuzz

Thanks for the link.
Perhaps my 940 was ordered from factory with a special request for this paint job..

Anyhow, I'm kind of stuck right now.
I'm trying to find information for the TD04HL-16T (#6) with the straight flange, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for..
I know it'll fit to my manifold (with a little bit of twisting and turning) and the oil and water connection, but I'm not sure my orginal downpipe will fit.

I'm afraid I maybe need a 3" downpipe for it, but some say I wont.
I've learned that the 16T #7 (99+ V70 T5, angled flange) I'm going to need a 3" DP
But i can't find anything about the #6, if someone would enlighten me about this, it would be much appriciated.

If it doesn't fit, I guess I'll have to find a orginal 13C so I atleast can get my car running again.

+Kardboard+
03-06-2011, 07:38 PM
Well, your stock downpipe is a conical flange, so I'm pretty sure you'll need a new downpipe. But I'm new to this, so don't quote me. :-P

Thefuzz

Yea, I decided to buy a new 13c to replace my broken 13c, just so I can get it running.
I'll probably get a turbo that can deliver more juice when its summer. More time, better weather and so on :)

I also found this, from a local Volvo Meet called Rättviksträffen.
