It's called a Hoyer Lift. It was originally intended to be a patient lift for tired old cripples who are more tired and crippled than me. Now it will lift batteries and cylinder heads and such.

Interesting. I bet that makes lifting car stuffs easier.

I used to sell these things to those tired old cripples (demonstrating how to do a bed-to-toilet transfer was always my favorite part :ohjoy: ) .
But I do remember they always worked better with wheel locks. Safety first!

Yes, I was just cleaning it up and looking it over this afternoon and it occurred to me that some bigger wheels on the back end and some sort of brake might be a good idea. These casters don't seem to have any sort of locks at all.
Maybe just some non-swiveling wheels on the post end, like my cherry picker would be enough to keep it from always finding the low spot in my shop floor.

Thanks, that's a late 40's or early 50's Vornado box fan. I've had it for about 20 years and it works great.
