There's roughly 9" of extra length between the A-pillar and the front crossmember.

Hi
There was a 164 front end put on a 142 rear here in australia. The conversion was done by a body shop. It involved cutting a 164 through the floor under the front seats and the winscreen pillars and connecting it to a 142 rear. I can't find the web site any more or the car
Here is a link to 164 front put on a 145 rear. This one was done fitting a 164 chassis rails and inner guards on a 145 body firewall

In the grand scheme of things it's probably a little easier to put 142 doors and B-pillar/quarter panels on a 164.
