Imagine a very crappy, damaged, nasty, set of virgos...thats what I had.
I decided to get them powdercoated because I was told that it would cover up many imperfections. It REALLY did.
But I don't like them. They are not my taste. TOO YELLOW.

WAY too yellow...not enough Metallic
I think the guy did a beautiful job. They are extremely shiny and glossy. I tries to emphasize that in this picture.

I was hoping for a DARK bronzish metallic gold....similar to what they used to put on old Impreza wheels. I thought it would go well with the burgundy car. Here is a current pic of it on backup wheels.

SO ANYWAY.... now im depressed because I just paid 160 bones (good price i know) on wheels that i don't like.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?....does somebody want them?...should the guy redo them?...should I spray them?...should I just USE them?.....i dont know, maybe

put them on! Shadows will give the effect you're looking for. Plus, the black tires will offset the yellowness a little bit.. mount some tires on them and put them on.. then take some pics!

Our local powder coating outfit can do almost any colour (ok any colour) you can think of including ones with lots of metal flake.

I actually like them. Bronze would look better on your car though.

Yeah ...that right there was what i was going for.
It does mach my pinstripe... but im putting in the GT interior this week.
Also...when i put the lowering springs in this week, it might not look too bad.
I guess it would not hurt to try them. Any more opinions?

At the very least I'd mount a pair of tires and put them on one side the car. I think it will look good. If not try again.
One thing I'd try, use Almost Chrome powder as the first coat, then a true darker gold over that. That's what I'm planning for the Valve cover of my 240. Here's a pic of my Miata valve cover with Cobalt Blue over Almost Chrome: http://www.threefattigers.com/Protocore/Photos/ValveCover234cs2.jpg
And one with Red over Almost Chrome:

Hey 3FT, So you are doing the coats yourself? That looks awesome...I was wondering how you got that anodized aluminum finish...What exactly does one need to get this?

No I didn't do them myself, my local Miata club president does this in his spare time. His work is top notch, unfortunately word got out and now he's so booked up you cant even get in line. The "Almost Chrome" is this stuff:

I think they changed the name, been a couple years since I last had any work done. This is applied and baked, then he used a non translucent color over them.
Equipment:
→air compressor
→sand blaster
→powder gun
→a used kitchen oven/stove large enough for the job
OR an infrared cure system, they sell them with guns:

Can someone please clarify what powdercoating is? I thought it was more of a process than a material. I will be coloring some wheels too, eventually.

That color probably won't look good with the color of your car, especially if your gonna keep all of the chrome on it.

A powdercoat is a coat of powder....hehe... the process that they do it is pretty cool.
They magnetically charge the powder so that it is attracted to the metal your coloring. I saw it on T.V. once.
The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish.
The guy sandblasted the wheels, used some filler, applied the powder, and then some clearcoat. Thats why the wheels look so amazing compared to the pieces of crap that they were. It masked the imperfections. VERY durable too.
EDIT: just be careful what color you pick.. :) .. look at the sample out in the sunlight instead of a dark garage (like i did)... especially if metallic is involved. cool avatar by the way

that color is awesome, but i dont think it fits your car, i think a dark color would be better for your car...like very dark gunnmetal. yellow would kind of make it like a Mc Donalds car
