I've heard about the Polaris wheels before, but I have never seen them. Even a search through google came up with nothing... if anyone has a picture can you post a link or email me. It's just a curiosity thing more than anything else... but thanks!

Now, where would I get my hands on some?!

They look really cool, and the lip is ridiculous.

You should see the lip on ones that have been widened to about 9"!

The replicas are available here: http://www.bcb.no/

"felger" = "wheel"

How much are those things? Where is that company? Can anyone translate that page?
Beautiful wheels, they'd look great on my wife's wagon. I'm sure shipping them over here would be ridiculous though.

Funny you should ask:

Hello.
Price for 4 wheels § 540.- (4)
Chipment to usa §325.- (4)
Total. to pay to us § 865.-
+ yours contrys taxes.

I don't know what currency the quote is, but I assume Euro simply because if it was 800 of anything else it would be ridiculously cheap for us in the US. Also, I don't think we have to pay tax (at least none of the VAT taxes from Europe). I am definitely looking into these...

pricing:

you talking about these rims: http://www.mamut.com/homepages/Norway/1/4/bcb/38felg-volvo1_mellom.jpg
Those are 998nok which is $136 each

You would replace paying VAT with Duty tax if its an international sale (counts as an export to the government) I believe those prices would be in Norwegian Kroner (the Euro is just a little more then the dollar where as the pound is almost 2x as much), check this for the conversions:

After putting up that ignorant sounding post earlier, I decided to do some research. The company is apparently in Norway. The currency listed on the site maybe in Norwegian Kroner. If that is the case, the conversion is below.

540 Kr = $73.87 -----> 4 wheels
325 Kr = $44.46 -----> Chipment to USA
865 Kr = $118.33 -----> Total

I think I'll buy two sets and sell one on ebay at a profit!

I assume the info you included in your post is from an email that you received from them. They may have been trying to duplicate a dollar sign with that currency symbol they put there. If that is the case, $865 still isn't toooo bad I guess. However, you know nothing about the quality of the wheels and how do you deal with warranty issues? How long do you have to wait for the wheels to be chipped over here? Who knows. I wouldn't rule it out, I'm just thinking of questions that would need to be addressed before I would buy from them.

I wonder if the shipping could be made reasonable with a group buy. Anyone else interested in these?

You posted as I was writing my last post. After reading yours it makes sense. 998 Kr = ~$136 x 4 = ~$540. The price that they gave him was for four wheels and the symbol is meant to be a dollar sign.

Again, I wonder if shipping would be cheaper per wheel with a larger shipment.

Ya, I did those similar calculations and assume that they were trying to create a dollar sign. I emailed them back to ask if that is what is meant, but if it is in fact in Norwegian Kronor it looks like we will all have a very happy holiday season!

I doubt it, my guess is shipping would be roughly $90-$110 per wheel, and maybe only $200 for all 4. If you could get the weights you would be able to get an estimate from UPS or something.

Bilsport has them in the classifieds every so often, TPC forums have them up there sometimes... they show up now and again.

Fake ones are better! OEM is good, but I'd rather have the extra 1/2" of width.

"Fake ones are better! OEM is good, but I'd rather have the extra 1/2" of width."

I agree Michael. If you look at replicas, they have a straight outer lip and the dish looks/is MUCH deeper. Plus, I don't know where you can get OEM's in perfect condition for even half that. Maybe we should see if BCB will do a group buy.

That site also has the replica wheels for the same price, but they layout is a lot better. Just a little more information....

I'd certainly be down for a group buy, maybe I could even take the initiative and try to contact these companies.

So the total price (In U.S $$$) is 540?? For the 17x7.5?
Did any one ever decide what the total shipping cost would be? If total is less that $1000 for the WHOLE package than I may be interested. Unless any one knows where I can get a set of T5R "Titan" rims for around the same price.

What's the offset?? +20mm?? I'm thinking they might work with my 1800 E. Might need a lil spacer.

I was quoted about a year and a half ago about 800 for the wheels and shipping to New York from BCB. I wonder if we can get a group buy on such a bulky item...

These are offered in a 16" rim.

"Til Volvo 240-

what does this mean? that the 17" rim is on sale for the same price ase the 16"?

its nice to have that option of having 15 inchers... cool.

I didnt know that BMW's have the same holes as we do... or do they have separate versions?

djtibb
11-26-2002, 06:25 PM
Must be separate versions for Volvo and BMW. They don't have the same bolt pattern as we do. They're 5 x 130 I believe.

BMW 5-6-7 is referring to the series. They use 5x120mm so there are two different wheels for each size (16" & 17").

I recently had to make the dreaded trip to the Volvo Dealer/Stealer to get some parts... I asked him, mostly out of curiosity, what the price was for 1 Polaris wheel. He quoted me 230 Euro, that's about $240.00. Not to bad considering they are the original. I had to look at the picture he had, just to be certain he was looking at the right wheel, and there it was...

i'd go in on a group buy only if i could get a volvo center cap to go in the aftermarket wheel.

i'm assuming the small center cap like the titans and volans (fwd 17" wheels)

I hate to be anal about this, but how much do the replicas weigh. I ahve been researching the weights are gemini's are definately the lightest for their size, but I don't know what a stock polaris weighs and have no idea of the weight of the replicas. Even if they were heavier they look so cool that I might not care.

They will be heavy; I have lifted one w/ a tire...it was about the same as my 17" Comet w/ tire and I definitely feel a loss in get up and go when I have them on. The look and handling improvement is worth the small performance loss for me, though.

It's still awhile off in the future, but I am planning on ordering the Polaris replicas from Norway come February when I get my tax return. I just wanted to let everyone know in case there was an interest in a group buy so we could begin to plan it. Hopefully we can work something out with one of the two companies. Also, I will email them and get the weight of the wheels.

seriously, why buy the wheel if you can't put the volvo logo center caps in. could you ask the aftermarket dealer if the factory center caps could be used?

Is there more to the name then just polaris? Is this the type or brand name?

Joe

Its the OEM Volvo name for the model of wheel, like Hydra or Virgo.
