My sweet sweet 83' 242Ti is growing up!
Couple questions as well.. I scrubbed down the pistons with a few of those metal type SOS pads, as well as the headgasket area with gas to remove carbon deposits and shhit and the SOS pad kinda fell apart and it got everywhere in coolant passages, and the thread area for the headbolts. Im also going to be getting a wire brush peice that fits on the electric drill so I can clean the coolant passages and all that stuff. The question being; im not taking off the oil pan. Should I just make sure I pour lots of oil over and over throu the motor before I start it? As well with coolant? And also when I do start it, I plan on running it warm a few times then flushing all the fluids.
What do you guys say about using RTV or gasket sealant on the front main seal? I had to peal the old **** off and it was a royal pain.. All surfaces are super clean and flat. Also, the waterpump gasket, a dab of sealant? I wont use it on valve cover gasket, dont worry. Also the manual I have says the headbolts should be torqued only to 80ft-lbs in the end? Sounds a little low to me.

Still need to send the A-Arms and attachments to get there bushings pressed in, Aside from that most of it is cleaned and rdy to be installed!

Old head.. Junk now 1 cyl is fragged.

The affected cyl, Is this what serious pinging looks like? Cuz its the only cyl that got it. Wonder if somethings up with the injector on that cyl.. hhmm

see? otherwise the heads not in bad shape.. Think it was rebuilt about 60,000km's ago when they removed the turbo. Gonna take the parts off of it and get my 50 cents of aluminum
