So this is my new ride. I have posted questions on here and have received answers to resolve a few issues. More questions will be coming. Picked this up almost 3 weeks ago...its a rip to drive...so quiet and 'composed' :)

These pictures are after it's first wash...still has a long way to go...the sills and door jambs are a mess with spider eggs and dust/oil/grease. It'll be a pig job, but it will get clean. I also have to pick up a touch up kit from the dealer...right now it is at the trusty Volvo mechanic getting a lot of oil leaks resolved.

Enjoy:

Already installed new tail lights, a turn signal, polished the headlights a bit...still have more to go with that. PCV kit and new hubcaps in hand...it's going to be a fun weekend =D

No rips or tears but very dirty. Das has a few small cracks, but nothing major.

Oh, crap...you're right. I posted it in the wrong place.
Could a moderator be so kind as to move this to the showroom section or delete it and I'll start another in that proper area of the forum?

Thank you

Went to pick up the car last night from a service: a lot of oil seals were replaced and the oil separator box will be replaced tonight by yours truly. The flame trap filter will be replaced as well as the hoses related to that.

Now I am having a tail light issue...the bulbs that are constantly on in the lower inboard locations (the ones that look like rear fog lights) have already melted one of the bulb holders. The FCP Groton replacement tail lights were installed in the same way that the old ones were...it was just plug-and-play, and the lenses on the old ones were burned through as you see on many 240's. Does anyone have a solution for this overheating problem on the tail light bulbs and holders. I searched on here and I understand ther eis a risk of a fire starting in the trunk (scary).

Looking at it again, the hubcaps give it a nice finished look. Steel wheels just don't seem to look right on a dark 240 in my eyes...it makes the car look so dark. Eventually, as per the advice of my good friend brick-a-brack and TB Member, I may get some wheels that are one, if not two, sizes up from the 14's with some nice rubber. The car handles comfortably right now, and it will stay that way for the coming future as it's intended purpose is to be used as a commuting car and gobble up the highway miles. Either way I will keep this thread updated with changes.

It's a nice combination...I had a '94 940 in a similar color combo when I joined this forums: black exterior with dark grey cloth interior. It looked impeccable when it was cleaned up. I still miss that car and when I got in this 240 for the first 'test drive' prior to purchasing, I got taken back to that initial 940 test drive...the smell, the noises (and lack there of), the feel of the car. I have to admit I had to play it down a little so as not to seem to excited about it to be able to bargain the price down.

I say color match the steelies to the exterior. The hubcaps are ok, but.....they're hubcaps.

Great looking sedan though. I do love that gray metallic.

They are round, clean and they work. Good enough for right now. Thanks for the compliment. Lovin' this car more and more.

Those aren't fog lights. The fog is the inside top left, and just that one. Those two lights that are lit up on yours are brake lights on my '91, and I know my wiring wasn't changed around at all. Maybe your brake switch is bad?

really? I have never noticed if those were the brake lights (embarrassed). I just assumed they were tail lights that were just a bit brighter. I'll look into that asap...thanks for the heads up.

PS: Does anyone know if these cars come pre-wired for front fog lamps that act with the rear fog lamp switch?

Thank you :)

I just checked the owner's manual...the ones lit up really brightly in the pics at the beginning of this post are indeed 'tail lights'...single filament bulb too. The outboard rectangles are the brake lights.

I'm confused. LOL

Strange. :e-shrug: I don't think mine would be different because it's a tourist/diplomat, but i guess it's vaguely possible.

Take the bulbs out?

Maybe my lights are bad too..or yours are royally jackled..
Botjh inner ones light up with my fogs on, not just inside top left.
Check your bulb #s..

Nice find...lose the hub cap's

Well...last night I replaced the PCV system....the flametrap and hoses, and the oil separator box. Despite what I have read, I did not remove the intake manifold. Someone on this forum mentioned that it is accessible by removing the intake manifold support bracket and the ISV bracket, and how right he was! Took about 2.5 hours...in the dark and 27 degrees, but the engine was warm :D

The positive side though, aside from the satisfaction of completing the task: no more oil leaks.
Had the timing belt and all seals in that area replaced...new water pump and gasket, rear cam plug seal, and all accessory belts. Ready for another 100K!

Another step accomplished today: interior light bulbs!
Replaced the light bulbs behind the console that light up the switch panel, the bulbs on all the switches and the heated seat buttons, re-wired the shift indicator light because the wiring was torn from getting tangled in the travel of the gear selector (?). Also did the bulb in the mid-mounted center console...the one that is mounted between the seats. Is that little bulb that illuminates the drive-shaft tunnel supposed to be on as long as the interior lighting is on?

Little by little we are getting there. :)

In our '93, the outboard bottom lights are combination brake/taillights, the inboard bottom lights are just taillights, the ones (plural) above them are rain lights (single filament brake light bulbs.)

I have replaced the passenger side tail light with another URO unit from FCP...they just sent me a new one with no issues. So far no issues and no melting. I will be hardwiring the lights in and removing the flexible green contact sheet eventually.

Got vacuumed today. :)

Ok...just an update for y'all:

I need to hardwire the tail lights as described in a thread here on TB...the green circuit sheet is total garbage.

Also undergoing the installation of a power antenna. The car had a plug for it already...I am not sure if they all come pre-wired for power antennas, but here are some pictures:

Made a seal from a bicycle tube just to make sure no water comes into the car. The previous owner had this ball-socket style antenna on there and I think the quarter panel was drilled for it to fit in there. It's a shame. The reason for the bicycle tube seal is because I am not sure the o-ring inside the antenna cap would seal properly being that the bodywork was drilled...this way I am sure. This is still undergoing installation and fitting.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w201/rodri9osilva/Volvo%20240/2011-05-16073609.jpg

The antenna is from an 850.

Temporarily zip-tied to for making a bracket.

Finished product will look like this:
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w201/rodri9osilva/Volvo%20240/2011-05-16074956.jpg

Need to find a proper seal for the quarter panel cap and create a bracket.
