View Full Version : How many Turbobrickers does it take to get a WWD Volvo home?

We answered that question today; 4, plus a Mercedes, a Jeep and a trailer. I went to have a look at Chesh's 750 R project http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?p=3715348#post3715348 when Roger rang. His V70 had expired in a cloud of steam. Turn it over on the starter and water fountains a foot high out of the expansion bottle. That'll be right royally buggered then.

Roger tried to hide his shame.

But I fortunately managed to catch him on camera for posterity. Chesh is winding the winch, Max is surveying the damage. Chesh Jeep is already hitched up to Roger's camping trailer, ready to take Julia, the kids and the trailer home. My Mercedes will drag the V70's corpse home.

Meanwhile We didn't get to play with the 750 R to try and get it to talk to us. The worst thing is we can't even whip the engine out of that V70 shaped thing and turn it 90 degrees. Evil things WWD Volvos:-P

So I guess this is official notification of excuse # 176 of why the 750 R doesn't run, yet....

Only thing a wwd volvo is good for is to be a donor.

Bloody thing, still the bill for breakdown recovery and tow home should cover the cost of some tyres for the new rims on the 750r.

^This=truth.

I just scrapped an S80 T6 that I bought for the engine. A happy day was me watching the hulk of that chassis head out my driveway on a rollback truck.

Nice job on the rescue! Maybe you two should start a towing service... Pete and Pete's FWD Volvo Snatchers. lol!

They have rubber suspension units, it is a very short arm in a rubber block. It is both the suspension and the shock.

Yes my wifes car has turned in to a boiler.
Good job I have a spare engine in stock.

It may be with asking Pete(fivehundred) what has happened to his own
Boiler ,I mean 940 and how long it has been dead.

Regards Rogerb.

Two friends and I just finished the second attempt at getting my wife's V70 running again. Blown head gasket caused a massive oil leak and overheating as well as oil starvation on #5 cylinder. Timing jumped during reassembly. All exhaust valves bent. Head from the scrapyard put on. Lifters as bad on the new head as on the one I bent all the valves on but at least it's running again. For the record the last head gasket I did on the 740 took an hour and a half. All told, this one took 9 months so far.

He's only had it about 2 weeks:lol:

When we got back to Roger's place the only taxed, MOTd and fully functional car out of a fleet of WWD motors turned out to be a V70 awd with two dented doors, touch park bumpers and a crumpled sill. A car which Roger doesn't want to drive because it is ugly and he's embarrased to be seen in it. It is also green. His S70 saloon has a noisy timing belt tensioner and his other V70 has been "Rogered" and is in bits in the garden.

Chesh made Roger's day by kicking in the slightly dented rear door on the "ugly" car whilst forcibly making the point that having 3 V70s and one S70 out of which three are undriveably fubarred and the 4th is so cosmetically challenged he doesn't want to be seen in it may not be a good transport strategy. Chesh, Max and I did offer to pool our meagre resources and buy Roger a balaclava in order to solve his "image" and transport dilemma; but for some reason he declined our generous offer:rofl:

I even know someone who can embroider a Turbobricks logo on the balaclava, what more could he want?

Still what is the point of having a fleet of cars if at least one is not broken.

The Green Awd has been restored to active service ,with the aid of some doors and other bit and bobs.

The light green one is awaiting to be fixed still. It has water in all 5 pots ,and killed all 5 new volvo spark plugs by blowing there top seals, where they are crimped together.

Regards Rogerb

Rogers not biting, despite me sending him links to some nice V70R autos with AWD that work and dont require paintwork or any meddling.

As i was typing this he popped round in his latest green machine with now undented doors, ( i resisted the urge to kick in the scratched front wings) he was trying to sell me his youngest child so that he afford to purchase a 2006 V70R.

After trying his child at numerous domestic household chores i declined to purchase so Rogers left V70R less and i still have a dusty house and the need of a good housekeeper.

I will try again with the sail of the children later ,Chesh will get bored of cleaning soon.

P.s getting a car that works would just not be right.

Wise decision Chesh - in my experience small children are not great at dusting and other household chores; in fact they create more mess than they should be capable of given their size. It wouldn't have been long before you returned him and asked for a refund due to misrepresentation by the seller.

Alledgedly there is a market for them if they're trained to race camels. Perhaps promise them a trip to the zoo and whilst there see if they have potential?

It seems to be catching; we now have a stranded 940 that spat its water out. Rather let the side down. Latest news is that the car restarted after a tranfusion. However progress has been arrested by a less than impressed PC Plod.....

On the plus side, whilst the V70 is going to die at least the 940 can get its freshened up tweaked engine.
