I'm planning on painting the car.

Does anyone think that 2 stage urethane would have an issue with what ever paint was used on the Volvo?

The Volvo is painted with a base coat white. I'm not sure what kind of paint it is though. Any ideas?

It'll be fine, you just need to apply a quality sealer before your base coat.
I like to use PPG epoxy, then high build primer, then the base coat.

You gonna paint the entire car? PPG epoxy is very expensive! but you can apply body filler right on top of it without sanding down to bare metal.

Body work sucks! but the good news is White and Black are very easy to paint with.

Good luck....sometimes diy paint jobs turn out very good cause when you spend all that cash on paint you will tend to be anal about your prep work and not take short cuts.

Just make sure you use the right materials and mix to product manufactures specs.
Have fun, do it right and when your done you can be proud of the finished product.

Here is a link to my last two repairs, drivers side totaled...I'm no bodyman but I have painted a few trucks.

real edit: I just looked at your link, if I were you I would get my paint and supplys at an automotive paint supplier in your area and not form Eastwood.......but that's just me.

+=1 to longhair's suggestions.

The good news is that the color # 189 white is single stage so you don't have to worry about sanding down baked and disbonding clear coat.

You can shoot anything you want over a factory baked enamel paint job like your 780 has. I would not even consider painting it with a single stage paint. That is as old school as it gets. Touch ups are a PITA with a single stage. Even Volvo went to clear coating their solid colors. It does several things that are positive. Better color retention, easier touch ups, thinner film build, better gloss.

+2 on what longhair said above. I have been using PPG products for 26 years. The DP XX line epoxy primer is the best product on the market, IMO. Their primer/surfacers are excellent as are their colors and clears. DBC color coat shoots as easy as lacquer. An excellent product for you as a beginner because it is hard to put a run in it. It is a professional grade paint. Easy to touch up, excellent surface finish, no drawbacks whatsoever. Shoot one of PPG's clear coats over the color coat when you get it right, color sand and buff it. Even as a beginner you can get a show quality paint job if you put in the effort.

hmm, don't know why this was moved. It's not a showroom thread, it was just a general paint question. Weird.
