does anyone know of an easy way to remove the emblem from this grill? I am thinking I will have to take off the "cross bar" and pop it off somehow.

Also, any ideas for filling in a gap of about 1/8" all around, if say... one were to use a smaller emblem? I feel home depot will have a solution somwhere, but I want it to look good.

It's really creepy you mentioned this, I'm just finishing this thing up today (thats why the black strips arent in the slash yet...). The old emblem popped out easy enough with a screwdriver to pry it off. You'll want to pull out the slash, ya, just pull the retianer circlips off from the back and it'll slide right out. As far as filling... I wrapped my new emblem with two layers of black electrical tape (twice around the circumference), set it in the middle, and then filled the area around it up with JBWeld. Once it was fairly dry (but not rock solid) I roughly cut as much jbweld off as i felt comfortble. then, I grabbed the end of the lectrical tape and VERY slowly pulled it up around teh circumference. once I got down, I had a very tiny gap in between the emblem and the jbw, and it popped right out. This process took me two tries, but the second time it worked perfectly. Then, I started sanding down from 100 grit down to 220. THere was some roughness and a couple air bubbles, if I did it again, I'd use a body filler instead of JBweld, but then again, Im not sure if body fller would work very well...the jbweld may have been hard to work with, but it sure will hold up just fine. In any event, it took two coats of primer, sanded in between shots, to cover the roughness, but after the last sanding and shooting it with duplicolor chrome, I think it turned out pretty good :)
