My windshield caught an invisible projectile at 70mph yesterday. Whatever this alien object was it put a silver dollar sized circular crack in the center. It is a pretty design but a bit hard to see out of and is probably going to fall out soon. The whole windshield needs to be replaced. I still want to have polished aluminum trim around the outside of the windshield as in my sig. Does anyone know what the part numbers for that and the corresponding gasket are or if they are still even made? I know the 91+ trim is easier to install but I prefer the windnoise generating style of the aluminum. Thoughts? Advice?

The 242. The 162 isn't real. Although any 140-160-240 aluminum trim should technically work.

I had a '86 and up windshield put in mine. Really nice, nice trim too.

If you want the chrome trim one, you will have to get it from a yard. They don't make it anymore. They only make 91-93 flushfit windshields now IIRC. Im pretty sure the chrome one needs a seperate gasket. The black one is a one piece.

part number...i dont know. Im pretty sure there are only those 2 styles for 240s. Any autoglass place/junkyard will hook you up.

So you want the chrome trim one???...the black flush fit style is so nice

Damn. If they don't make the trim ones anymore I'm pretty screwed, it will look odd having aluminum around every window but the front. Maybe I can glue my old trim to the windshield somehow.

a junkyard could probably hook you up

besides, im speaking of my experience in my region. I went to 2 different places that told me the same thing...only new school windshields can be bought new. Your luck could be different.

How about buy new clips, have them installed on the windshield, and reinstall the old trim?

I just had two windshields done by safelight auto glass, they have the clips to hold the trim on cost was $140 installed. They did a great job as well...

$140 is pretty good. The deal is I have to go through my insurance. They will fix the crack for free IF it is fixable. The cost of a new windshield is 198 installed. The guy didn't know if he had ones with trim so I'll find out today when I get it inspected. If they only do new ones I may be going to the junk yard to get some better trim and install that on there using mirror epoxy.

I HATE standard 240 windscreen trim.
I just had a new windscreen fitted to the 240 and had them install a a flush-fitting rubber trim which looks even better than the '93 windscreen.
It cost $150 AUD for the windscreen and $30 for the rubber, which, for the Aussies, is generic VT/VX/VY Holden Commodore front windscreen rubber.

Well, they can't repair it, insurance won't pay for a new windshield so I'm gonna live with the crack. It will add that lived in panache, and a convenient porthole if it decides to fall out.
