Don't they weigh like, about a million pounds though? :e-shrug:

the unpowered passenger seat is pretty light.
the powered drivers seat 8 way with manual lumber and side bolster adjustment is pretty weighty

If you're concerned about weight... do what I did in my Daytona! Take a 5 gallon bucket and duct tape it to the floor! Light and economical! A little to be desired with regards to lumbar though....
As for the M3 seats, I love them! Every time I see an M3 the interior is one of the things that catches my eye.

They don't weight a million pounds. More like 1/10,000 of that, or 100 lbs for the power ones and maybe around half that for the manual ones. Still too heavy for me. They are very nice seats, but I will be getting rid of mine at some point in the next year for something lighter as I begin to lighten my car. I have the sport seats, which have the extendable thigh bolsters. These are not the "Vader" seast.
At least the power ones are not great for really tall people. There is too much junk on the bottom of the seat that interferes with the Volvo floorpan.
It seemed like a great idea at the time, but I would not do it again. I got the pair of black leather power heated sport 97 M3 seats for $200.

The power heated "Vader" in the E36 M3 wiegh 80 pounds each the manual ones are a lot lighter. If you can find them for cheap I would get them (if they are in good shape) in a heart beat. But I would stay away from the power/heated. The manual seats are also heated so you don't ahve to worry about getting the power seats if all you want is heat.

LOL Phil. It's a shame about the BMW seats. We've wrecked a few 3 series cars with real nice black leather seats but I've never bothered because of the weight. Doing a search for "recaro seats" and what not on ebay will often turn up decent OE seats from other cars I find. It's probably what I'll do when I get to that point. Need wheels, tires, engine and transmission first. lol.

Even many of the Recaros are 35-45 lbs. I had a manual cloth Recaro LSC in my 242T and it was heavy. I wanted matching seats later, so I bought a pair of Flofits on sale that together cost the same as the single Recaro. They were heavy also.
We have a few of the old, old BMW Recaro, but they are for really skinny people. Plus they are about 20-30 years old and need rebuilding to be really nice (at $250 plus each in vinyl or cloth).
Anyway, definitely weight the seats you come across. Some of the 320i Recaro may be lighter and the Wolfburg Jetta Recaro may be lighter. Some of the Honda Recaro copies may also be light. The important thing for the Volvo is to get a flat bottom seat, due to the odd Volvo floorpan.
If I stumble across used OEM sport seats that are light and in good condition, I'll consider them. Otherwise, I am leaning towards Corbeau A4, which are reclineable yet weigh only 25 lbs. They were rated very comfortable and supportive for tall people who do not have tiny waists and backs in a Sport Compact Car review of 74 sport seats last year.
Bekkers, a Porsche aftermarket company, sells a reclineable cloth sport seat that is 22 lbs for $170. It looks nice, but after reading the SCC review, I won't buy without more information. Lots of seats that look nice were rated poor for comfort and or support depending on the body size of the tester.
