I wouldn't call it the dark side.....850Rs are incredible, I love ours. But stay away from Pirelli(spelling?) for tires we went with Yokohama because they're cheaper and lasted longer. Better wet weather tread too

Drive an 850R and you're sold. Start repairing it and you want to sell.

I love my R don't get me wrong but it costs me an arm and a leg sometimes, but thats partially because its extensively modified. That doesn't just mean a bolt on exhaust and a chip.

As for Yoko's, I have a set of AVS ES100's on the front. They're so terrible it will take a LOT for me ever to buy another set of tires by Yokohama.

Oh yeah if you want to have lots of fun and need new tires, turn off tracs and go out driving, its fun.

hope the tranny holds up? What the hell is that about nub? This tranny is twice as strong as that wussy ass tranny you have. Hell I bet his tranny is stronger than Doug's T5...hope the tranny holds...

Uh, not really. The AW50-42 doesn't hold up too well when its mated to a car modded to over 300hp, especially if it doesn't get an auxiliary trans cooler and they heat up very quickly. I know I worry about my transmission in my R.

Oh and for the T5 thing, No. Not nearly. Maybe an M56, but not an AW50-42.

One final thing, try to relax it on the hating. Attitude problems aren't cool, and a statement like that makes you look like you're 9.

Nice car. I like the smooth grille, but it would look better dark.

Not to go off topic too far, but I have 3 sets of Yokohamas, and I am happy with them.
That said, however, I have seen ES100s blister on a WRX, as well as Kumho MXs, but Azeniseseses are doing well.

I have never in my life seen a FWD autobox break from anything short of mismaintanance. I have never seen one give out because of too much power so for someone to come on here and say they hope your tranny holds is a crock to me. Have you sir ever seen one break? If you have you'd be the first person I, or anyone else I know, knows of that has seen one break.

He's more likely to break his bottom end before he breaks his tranny and even the bottom ends are good to at least 300whp with the proper tuning and even that is up for debate. I find it rather obnoxious when people who have little to no experience with FWD cars and/or motors try and give others advice especially about parts that break.

This is straight out of the blue to me...I know of no one who has upgraded their car and even thinks about their tranny overheating. If someone is telling you this then ask them where they are getting their information from. If you know this from personal experience then please elaborate as I, along with everyone else I, know seems to be in the dark about it.

Nice Car! I really like 850R's, but i agree, you should paint the grille black. That would be cool. People not happy with ES100's? Well I guess that will happen when you have 300+ hp to the front wheels... it's bound to spin them and understeer. I was happy with my es100's, but happier with my bridgestone s-03's. :badboy:

8 series cars (and their derivatives) are very nice cars. My parents had an 850glt na and it was a very nice car. Great road car, nice engine, nice looking, solidly built, just an all around nice car. What killed it for my dad was working on the thing. They're definately not built as user friendly as the old cars. But then again, nothing is anymore.

I know of two people in our area that have had to rebuild their tranny's. Noah and Chris. Granted they have a few miles on them, not sure how much. But yes I'd say these transmissions aren't the most reliable and have been known to wear out. I'm worried about mine. But since this car in particular only has 80k on the clock then I would just flush the tranny with some synthetic and not worry about it.

Chris bought his car miles unknown if I remember right so there is no telling how many miles he has on his tranny. Again I said that I have never known one to break from brute force, they do break from neglect.

Have fun with the rear main seal....2 850's and 2 replacements later... about $900 a pop. Grand when you can do it yourself

I agree with the comment about Pirelli's - the Uk Police forces that use T5's and R's were getting through a set a fortnight with a heavy right foot. They now use either Michelin or Avon.

Well the tranny in my 2000 S40 1.9t went out earlier this week with 55k on and it's gonna cost 3.5k to replace. I flushed the fluid at 30k with synthetic and I've babied the car so it hasn't been neglected. My car isn't even that modified, I just removed both cats and one resonator.

Its hard and near impossible to compare a FWD to a RWD volvo.....I spent a long time looking, and thinking about a car for my younger sis, and decided on a FWD volvo, mainly for handeling characteriscs, she wont be a crazy driver, but last thing i need to hear is she did a 180 coning around a corner with a bit too much gas, real easy here in LA after and during a rain. Found a 1995 850 Turbo sedan, White on tan leather, glass roof, trip computer, tracs, heated seats, dual climate auto A/C, 16" wheels, 99k on the clock owned by 2 people, looks like it was garaged its whole life. I mean its immac!! 6500 cash, after tax and license it was like 7300. and my parents and family love it. A few minor things, A/c has a leaky service valve, and the trans needs a service, other than that, its runs and drives beautifly....but NOTHING like my 765, I mean...nothing. I cant even really compare the two. But damn, with that 15G on there, that 5 banger hauls bannas! Kinda weird to light up the front tires while rolling making a left turn ;)

all I know is the Pirelli P-zeros we had got owned every sinle long trip. They'd develope a friggin bump and come close to a burn out. And Volvo just kept putting them back on(warranty). So after the warranty ran out we just ran with Yokos, no more problems...man, I love our 855R

Don't even worry about the transmission, I hate when people say that crap. Like with ANY auto change the fluid and if your going to drive it hard install a trans cooler. The #1 killers of auto transmissions are HEAT, and LACK of maintenance.

That's one sick car you've got there, enjoy and keep us updated on what you do, even though lots of the guys here hate FWD, I love 850's. I suggest a nice exhaust system, you've gotta show off that unique 5 cylinder sound!
