View Full Version : The 5th New England meet - 10/23/04

October 23rd. Meet starts at 10am. Be here no later than 11am as we'll be leaving to go up north. Plan not to get home until late. If you want to crash here, I've got floor space.
Plan is to take a day trip up to the White Mountains in NH. We MIGHT get to do the Mt Washington Auto Road. It closes early, though, as above ~4000ft, winter comes much sooner and lasts much longer. If you want to do that and it's still open to private vehicles all the way to the summit, have your snow tires on just in case. I'm not counting on this, though, as it's been a pretty cold year overall.
Even if we don't make Mt Washington, there's still lots to do up there. Conway has a lot of stuff to do, and we'll figure something out. After Conway(or the Auto Road if that works out), we could traverse the Kancamangus Highway and return here via I-93.
EDIT - Location is FINAL. We're meeting at the Park 'n Ride at Exit 7 off 101.
DIRECTIONS:
From the WEST: Right at the end of the ramp, and it's your first left.
From the EAST: Left at the end of the ramp, go through the light, it's your first left after the light.

My vote would be for the 23'rd. I am busy on the ninth and I definitely won't have my brick yet at that point.

I'm down. Have to get a date sorted out so I can take it off from work. I just took off the 15-17 for the VCOA meet.
So whatever, make up a date, and if I can't make it don't worry.

If we go for the 23rd, I am almost certain the Auto Road won't happen. It usually closes around that time - and this year has been a cold year.

Considering the mean age of most of the people @ the last meet was hovering somewhere slightly south of 21, I doubt alcohol consumption will occur.
Add to that, the fact that 90% of us are not from around there and will be driving home afterwards, alcohol isn't a great idea.
Of course, after driving back to Maine I'm probably going to get all kinds of loaded that evening. Anyone that wants to join me thats 21+, feel free.

I am all about a little drive down to the white mountains. I was saying something about that at the last meet, about driving to Acadia on the coast of Maine.
But whatever is cool with me.
I think it should be a little later in the month. I need a little time to get things done before we go.
Let me know. If anyone wants my cell number, pm me, and i will give it to you.
And i am sure i can speak for ryan. But he and I are always up for getting some drinks. If we do, we can crash at my place in Brunswick.
Adios

FYI, just in case some of you didn't read the Mt. Washington Auto Road website, it costs $18 per car and driver, and if you have adult passengers, its $7 on top of the $18. I don't know about you, but $18 to drive 16 miles is a hell of a toll!
I also especially like this blurb taken from the "limitations" portion of the site: Acura, Honda, Jaguar, Saturn, and Sterling autos with automatic transmissions must show a "1" or "L" on the shifter to be allowed on the Auto Road
Now why do you suppose that is? hehehe.
240T man
10-04-2004, 04:11 PM
Not to worry, we're probably not doing that anyways. They close for the season on the 24th, and that's weather permitting. Like I said, it's been a cold year on top of that.

Thats right, have to come back to maine for drinking. I know I'll be in for a small volvo oriented party afterwards, one wonders how the room for crashing is situated at the proposed place of our libation. chigga, sorry there won't be any partying at my place. my mom is rather against drinking. the party is going to be at either Overboosted745's or Volvo242ft's place.
My place is open for partying FOR 21 and OLDER ONLY. The reason I say that is because civilians usually only get a ticket / summons for providing alcohol to minors and pay a small fine. I would get that, plus an Article 15 or an LOR... not exactly the kind of 1st impression I want to make on my new CO.
That doesn't mean under 21 can't show up... if you do be prepared to spend the evening at the kiddie table drinking kool-aid and watching my extensive collection of SpongeBob DVD's. I will be checking ID's.
As far as sleeping here goes, there's plenty of space on floors and couches at my place for at least 5... but bring sleeping bags.

hey, I'll show up. I didn't drink a drop of alcohol during the SE meet party, and trust me, they tried to get me to get trashed. to the point of twig saying "here have some coke" when i know he had tequila or something in it (hmmm maybe that's because i watched him put it in there - oh yeah, that's it! ) point being, I don't give a flying **** what people think of me, I just go around to have a good time.

I have 2 gas grills and a whole bunch of wood to burn too, so maybe a cookout / bonfire would be in order... with the necessary permits, of course and depending on the weather.
Oh, and the reason I was saying I prefer 21+ is because some of my buddies that will more than likely be showing up are state / county cops. They won't report or arrest anyone but if it turns out that something does go down and it is uncovered that they were there, their careers are over.
Under 21 folks can come if they want like I said above, but don't come expecting to drink.
But this is getting out of hand, this isn't talking about the meet, I'm talking about the informal afterparty.
We'll cross these bridges when we get there. Anyone else that wants to talk about the afterparty, PM me. I'll start a seperate thread when the date gets nearer.

Well we don't intend to stay there any longer than necessary to gather people up. The plan would be to cruise to Conway, eat, then those of us who are going to Ryan's will probably leave to do so.
Edit: If you have a short range two way radio bring it, if you have spares bring them, if not and you can afford the massive expense(sarcasm) then buy some. It makes this kind of thing far more entertaining and helps prevent people from being lost.

UPDATE-
I may change the initial meet location from my house to the Park 'n Ride at Exit 7 on 101. It's right off the highway so it's easy to find - and it's on 125 which is one of the roads we'll be taking to get up north anyway. case in point, it's easier to find than my house.
From the west - Exit 7, make a right at the end of the ramp and it's your first left.
From the east - same, but left at the end of the ramp and it's your 2nd left. (obviously you don't want to get back on 101 :-p)
so, keeper or just meet at my house?

I'm Ryan, with the 745 that redecorated Shane's front air dam with carbon and oil.
Rear cam seal, turbo oil return, oil breather box o-ring, dipstick o-ring, all leaking. Replaced them all 4 years ago and woo hoo, leaking again. Time to order another oil trap from VLVworld and wait 5 months before it arrives.
