I was thinkin about getting a small group together for a weekend in Jan to Deals Gap or better known as HW129. If you dont know about this road its very famous over here on the east coast. Legend says a Dragon lives in the mountains of western North Carolina. He tests your skills on US129 with 318 curves in 11 miles.
Everyone who comes to ride the Dragon will always remember it. So it says on the website http://www.tailofthedragon.com. I haven been there before but I have heard its a alot of fun and might be nice for a winter get together. I am told that cabins or rooms can be rented for cheap and it might be nice for a short weekend to get a few Tbrickers together for some new year fun. If things go as planed I will make reseverations based on prepaied entries from people intrested. The cost will be like 50 bucks total per person. Let me know what yall think

any clue when in january it would be?

i have winter break until like the 17th or something, so i may be interested

would this be a snow-tires drive...being in NC in january? or likely a summer tires drive?

either way sounds like bunches of fun, keep me up on it

yeah i've wanted to drive that for a while, i think Robin's done it a few times... its dangerous though, lots of sink holes in the road and cliffs w/o railings - sounds like fun!

You guys should do some T'bricks Touge racing! That would be bad***! Then release an all-owning video to sell on here. In car cameras, shots of cars flying by at speed..... If you do make sure Robin edits in some random introductions with wierd sentence structure and skinny Japanese girls.

cept its gonna be in the middle of winter....in the mountains...in north carolina. other than that, i'd be down for some super dorifto touge action

good idea nonetheless Dustin...just the conditions may not be ideal for such an endeavour

Bah, I was mostly kidding. I looked at the website and that crap looks dangerous. I'd love to get down there for a T'bricks meet in the mountains. I love the Appalachians, seriously.

Not to rain on your parade, but:

The Gap is not quite the place it used to be. It's a big attraction for motorcyclists. Due to it's popularity it has become heavliy patroled. If you do go and you do drive fast, expect to get a ticket. They have dedicated helicopters and lookout points in which they use VASCAR and then radio down to roadblocks. We are hundreds of tickets issued in a single weekend. This is in responce to the increase in people going there for the thrills of the road. An average of one rider a week gets airlifted out due to crashes. As it was mentioned before, this is a windy road through the mountains and truckers are notorious for not being able to keep their rigs in their lane through some of these blind curves.

I live in central NC. I've never been up there, I just got my bike this season, but I work with several enthusiasts. This from what they tell me. It's so bad that they refuse to go there anymore and this is a place they would make annual trips to. There are other fun places in the mountains around there though, some of which aren't as mainstream and have less pigs on the roads.

damn the pigs.
I dont care what we do for the winter meet, so long as its in the mountains and somewhat snowy.. easier on the tires :)

well yeah, you're right.. since neither of your cars really has the power to "break traction" or "accellerate to unsafe speeds"

Sounds like a fun drive. Just be careful if its as dangerous as people have mentioned and well patrolled.

Here we have 'The Great Ocean Road' - runs from Torquay (where Bells Beach is for those who surf) and winds along the coastline.
Its a fantastic drive if there is no traffic and if you keep to the speed limits going through the townships.

Best thing is, it starts about 10mins away from my house.
