View Full Version : Couple more pics of the turbo V8 exhaust and car

A few people were wondering about the exhaust routing and ground clearance issues. I went with 4" for the full exhaust because it was actually cheaper, went to a truck salvage yard and got about 10 mandrel bends for 25 bucks, then bought 10' of straight pipe, a summit muffler, kept the whole exhaust right at 200 bucks, I was happy :)

That composite bonnet still giving ya problems?

I have ran it once at Bristol dragway. Best run was a 13.5 @ 108mph with a 2.38 60'. That was with a safe 11.5:1 a/f and 7psi.

I put a different gasket under the composite bonnet and I think that helped a little, I haven't hooked up the compressor to the system recently to pressure test for leaks, I'm sure the crappy bonnet is still leaking though.

Yeah I was glad to find your post on TurboMustangs cause I showed a friend, but EV never responsded to his email about the pressure ratings. So I told him not to try for it after reading what you posted.

Wow, it's looking great! I sure hope I get to see it when I'm back in Richmond in December. Also, I see I'm not the only one who has a hose-clamp for an exhaust hanger ;-)

o yeah, and are you going to put some exhaust wrap or some sort of heat shielding on the downpipe? or does it not come that close to things?

Just as amazed at the weight you reported earlier of 3120, my '92 245 recently weighed in at 3140 with a full tank.

Thanks, I'll try to get a video soon. That weight with 3120 was before all this turbo stuff. That was with no a/c, power steering, or condenser. I'm sure all that stuff weighed at least 50 lbs, it all got added back plus a few more with the turbo. I'll try to weigh it again.

The piping isn't really near anything so it be ok, I did have to wire the turbo drain away from the collector area and a spark plug boot was melted a bit because I didn't bend it up away from the header. I really could use the wrap though to reduce temps under the hood.
