Ive decided im going to paint the 240......what color is at the crossroads im at...Ive narrowed the wide road down to two choices Jet Black or....Orange..orange like what you see on the older 140s its bright fits the car really well, its not nasty and brownish like what they did to some 70s corollas..i dunno what exact orange that is..but if someone would tell me. it would be much appreciated

ORANGE!....I have a resprayed Black GT that was done years ago. The black paint shows all the dirt, wax swirl marks, and water spots. IMO black cars suck. If you want to be different do an orange candyapple paintjob OR just do some cool ghost graphics on the orange paint.

I really like black on the '86+ 244, especially with the tan interior.

I'll second the argument against black paint. its a PAIN to keep clean. The only time my black 242ti looked clean for more than a week was after Meguairs Triple Step Deep Crystal system. I wont be buying another black car, unless its a killer deal.

This is true. Unless you have a garage, or at least a cover, black is a pain in the ass. But when it is clean, a beautiful gloss black is so damn nice.

Black. I love it and thought I would hate a black car. Black makes every car look nicer. As far as orange, go with Chevy "hugger orange".

I'm sure that's why Volvo stopped using that color 25 years ago. They've always been ahead of the times.

The "pumpkin" orange is cool. Do that. Dark colors are indeed a pita.

I like black or a dark grey. BMW 750il charcoal grey (might not be the exact name) looks pimp. Maybe black with a coat of metallic dark grey or something.. But if its between orange and black, I would go black. Vovos look good in black.

I always liked my old '81 242 DL's yellow beige color... It was unobtrusive, and hard to tell when it got dirty, it blended so well. Though if I had to pick between black and orange, I'd go with orange all the way.

I think black cars look badazz, as long as it's someone elses car,
due to the maint. Orange would be cool also. I'd hate to be in your shoes.
I would go crazy with making a decision on a color. Did that help any?
Good Luck

Black with orange stripes :-D

Quoted for emphasis. I seriously think it would look frickin sweet in gloss black with two thin orange stripes down one side.

IMO Orange is reserved for classic cars.....on anything else, especially really new cars it just looks bad. You really need a bit of chrome sometimes to pull it off. I've seen an orange p1800ES a few times and it looks great. But a 240? ick

I guess you know I'm all about the black. And you know, black is the new black. However, I think you should paint it safety orange so there will be one less black car for me to compete with.

Black and Orange. That's badass Halloween craziness.

Actually, anything orange would be hideous. Think of two things:

1: Increased rice factor ten. You'd better have speed to back it up. Pat did.

2: Can't show up to an interview or office meeting in said car.

I say paint it a highly clear coated beige.

hehe, you know thats one reason I got the S70....

The Sparco seat really wrinkles your suit, and popping your hood to hot-wire your e-fan gets your tie dirty...

Agreed. Thankfully it lives in a garage again now :) It is an amazing difference when it is clean! :) Although that takes FOREVER, swirl marks show too easily in black also.

If I get to paint my 242 ever it will be a toss up between Silver, Metallic Grey, or Blue.

The BMW charcoal grey your talking about is called Delphin Metallic. My dad's BMW is that color, but I would definitly go black on the volvo.

go for a medium green to as dark as a british racing green, every 240 I've ever seen in green looked hot. I'm hoping in a year to do med jade metallic with copper/silver/gold cromatic side racing stripes where the trim currently is. Other wise I second a vote for silver, even after sitting in the driveway for 2 months while I was gone I still got complements on its looks and the thing only looked dirty up close.

I'd go for either the older 140 dark orange (instead of the nasty lighter shade) or the C70 orange...if I were going orange. I wanted one of the dark-orange 140s, but ended up with a red one, and all I can say is D@#N it looks good in it's original 'blood red' color base/clear. Not ricey, but stands out when it's clean. Black is just too might maint. and shows scars too easily.
