I was looking for a car for a friend and stumbled across this ad for a 360 R-sport. It appears to have a full roll cage and coil over suspension from the description. I was thinking it might make a cool project car for someone wanting to turbo a 360... I emailed the seller for more pics, hopefully he sends me some. Enjoy.

Is it just me or does that bear a striking resemblance to an 80's Mazda 323?

I wouldn't mess with that R-Sport thingies engine nor anything else. And I hope that who ever buys that knows the history and leaves it as it is.. 200 to 300 official R-Sport 343/360's were produced by Volvo so not so many of those left.. Normal 300-series are available plenty though so better to put turbo engine in those. ;)

343 Rally Cross car would be nice. Volvo won the European rally championship with those couple of times. First version had a 1.4 renault engine bored to 1.7 and it packed about 300 horses. Insane acceleration wen't 0-100km/h in 3.2sec... They also made 360 RC car with Volvo engine, turbo, 16V etc... had a four wheel drive also. I have couple magazine articles of those beasts from 80's. In finnish though...

There's one nice 360 Turbo.. Garret GT40, 16V etc... On that page there is also a vid of that thing kicking the s*** out of Mitsubisihi 3000GT, Vette etc.. :D Crazy swedes..

Very cool. I never really checked out the 300 series before... thought they were like the 400 series :uh: No offense...

That isn't a 343 R-Sport...just a modded 343 GLS (continental European forerunner to the 360....same engine, different badge for a year or two). Very nice car, if a little pricy.

cheers

I just see an old ford escort when I see one of those. To each his own I guess

I see something that can natively take a redblock, is RWD with 50:50 weight distribution, and in its heaviest form weighs 200kg less than the lightest 240! I now own two... Each to their own indeed!

cheers

May I have one? About how much do they weigh, in stock form?

Well I see potential... This one guy here is running 6sec from 0-60mph and he hasn't even got a 2.3l block yet. Only thing to worry is the cardan axle because it can only take something like 250hp but of course it's no problem because you can reinforce it. Suspension is a bit soft too on stock but again you can have made new springs and anti-roll bars etc...

Unloaded weight for my GLT is rated 1090kg.

Turbobricks is setup so your sig is only posted once per page... It's less cluttered that way and takes up less bandwidth... :)

They're cheap enough....got a boat?!

3dr 340 (the 'new' car) is about 850kg stock. It'll weigh a lot more once its got a new drivetrain and a redblock in it though :)
I think my 5dr is around 1150kg.

Has someone got info about putting in a 1.7 liter turbo engine of the 440 into the 340 with the 1.7 renault block? The 1.7 turbo of the 440 is basically the same block, just other cilinder head, pistons, other things, tubo added, injection etc.
What about the clutch? that's my main concern.. Other things can be fixed..

Nice to see a 360 thats not rusty and ugly.

foggyjames
11-08-2004, 07:18 PM
Yeah, they rust fairly badly!

The bigger concern for me would be the weak 340 propshaft...but its easy enough to remedy if it proves to be a problem!

cheers
