Well this was a project that my brother (brickpilot) and I got involved in. To take this 245 Turbo and kinda update it and sorta make it cool looking again and also save it from the crusher. The car was going to get the typical IPD upgrades IE sways springs billy's IPD exhaust and some other different upgrades 92+ flat glass windscreen 90+ rear hatch VW antenna mounted in the center of the roof color change from white to black fix the rust install 90+ doors flat hood just like mine on my 240.The engine also got some much needed attention after 250k See pics before and after. This project took most of 2003 started in July 03 and finished June 04.Tell me what you think???

wow that's insane!

We were amazed ourselves when it was complete and I think my brother wanted to keep it when it was done (he drove it for 3 weeks). It was originally my car when I totaled my 700 but after I found my red 900 I sold the 245 T to my brother. He drove it in the way you see the before pic for about 1 1/2 years.

Windscreen is new just like the 93 windscreen without the moulding that usually comes off after a while. All the other doors + glass is 90+ from the parts car trim was original and headlight bezels were ones that I had lying around. Also put in a GOOD uncracked dash and replaced expansion valve and converted to 134 A.

Holy ****......that can't be the same car!

Very nice work, however I personally don't like the front...I like the 86+ front better. Looks kinda weird with the old front and the new backend :-P

Anyhow, I didn't know 92+ had different windshields....care to take a close-up picture? I'm very curious, as I am in the planning of doing a complete paintjob soon, and then I have to remove the trim to get the finish I want....

Is it just the trim around the windshield that is different or is it also the windshiled itself?

MikeHardy

nah, the old front is cool.

UNBELIEVEABLE work on that car. That thing is sexy as hell. Thanks for the inspiration.

About the hatch: Where'd you get it? It looks smoother and lower profile than my 83. What'd you do to make it look that good?

Also, how'd you paint it? (the whole car)

The Hella driving lamps came from Susquehanna Motorsports (www.rallylights.com). Their website doesn't seem to be working this morning, but that is the source. Good lights are never really cheap.

I'm not that big a fan of carbon for looks. If I was going to do a CF hood, I think I'd still paint it black. I'm into the weight savings, really. And this car is already in danger of tipping into the realm of rice.

As for what this cost to build, let's just say that it was not a really great investment. I HAD to have a 245, period. Once I started picking and choosing, I just couldn't seem to stop. Bur realistically, if you want a station wagon with a stick, good power-to-weight, and decent handling, where else can you go? You could easily spend $35-$45k on a new Volvo, BMW, or Audi wagon. Or you can build this for a fraction of that. Seems like an easy decision.

Oh, and here is one of the other Volvos I own:

Painting a CF hood just makes it heavier...

I don't get this at all. What exactly about your car is rice-like? I don't see it.

The windshield is a 667 different from the older windshields I have installed these windshields in my 83 244 T my 73 142 e an 87 245 wagon and the beauty of them is you do not have to worry about clips for the moulding. Close up pics in my 73

My arm is still sore from sanding and of course I used a d/a when the area permitted and then primed the car and blocked it them primed again and sanded again and primed andblocked them prime then sand then paint. I have got my eyes on a 83 245 T that I am considering purchasing and doing similar to and selling although my project would have the R brakes E codes with 86> front with 17 inch Peg's on it. Price ????? well not available yet..

What a beautiful transformation on a Volvo nearly ready for the crusher! You guys did some wonderful work! I need to replace my windshield and what you have done is great, especially getting rid of the metal trim. Do I just ask to have a 667 Volvo windshield installed? Thanks for any info, and congratulations again on some topdrawer restoration work!

My windshield still passes inspection with 3 star chips and two small (self inflicted) cracks. I'm sure you've heard of people replacing a windshield and then a day or week or month later getting a big chip/crack. So I'm waiting as long as possible. Mine's no show car, and it doesn't leak, so I'll leave it for now and spend money elsewhere, like that engine project.

I have:

You are amazing. too tight to fix a windshield but you will spend money on an engine ??? I have had 2 windshields put in my 83 turbo but never due to cracking/chipping afterwards first one leaked glass co came out tried to seal again no go and then replaced for free of course they broke the old one coming out..

For those of you in Australia, you can use generic VT/VX/VY/VZ commodore windscreen rubber for a flush black mould. Has to be done when you change the windscreen though.
Get rid of clips and big ugly stupid mould that shrinks in the sun.

It cost me an extra $30 when I got the new windscreen fitted.

Why not? That's nothing - you should see some of the cars here in CA. Folks driving around with half a busted windshield, yet they were able to afford the huge rims, rice lights, fart cans, and park benches. (Yes - plural. Had one on the roof and one on the trunk.)

Then there's the ones driving around with external A/C ...

I just figured that the police would pull you over if you had cracks or bullseye in windscreen. I know several people that have been pulled over and given Repair orders I personally do not like being hassled by the men in blue. Just seemed kinda STUPID :stupid: too risk it if they have the same laws as we do in MD.
Thanks for the compliments on the wagon..I may see another one on the HORIZON..
