Something is way wrong with your link...It looks like its being eaten, by some linux or something.

Are you looking at a car like ravennexus has? His is an early 80's european spec car and they had later fenders, TV screens and the flathood.

Edit: forgot to mention that the cowl is completely different than out 86+ cars. The cowl is the same as the 85- cars here.

Depending on what headlight set up you have would really dictate grill as far as I know. I would think that a grille from any flathood car would work, Although I think with E-code lights like shown in that pic I have never seen one in person so not sure if it is wider than the "normal"(US versions) that I have seen? Those headlights should be very similar to the 86+ US headlights. But as far as I know, you would have to get the grille from Europe. I don't think you got that combination in the states.

As for fitting a flathood onto a post 86 car, you will also have to change the plate under the windshield. On >86, the cowl on the plate were lower than the plate, on 86> the cowl is raised abovce the plate. Changing hood without changing this plate looks weird, and, sadly, changing the plate is a LOT of hard work.

that would be an 86+ headlight, grille, fenders, and the metal piece under the lights/grille on an old car.... however the euro cars have flathoods and that same setup.

Now, to make a late model car into a flathood you have to obviously swap all above plus you have to flatten the air vent thinggy.. between the hood and windshield. The late model one sticks up and will interferre with the flathood which sticks down. in otherwords, time to break out the welder.

Get an 85- turbo car and switch to the 86+ fenders and lights do the 740 turbo grille mod and install a flathood and you could get that look. I seriously considered doing that on my car when I bought it.

forgot to add, towery mentioned to me once someone who has done an 86+ flathood and there was some mod to the vents themselves under the "thing" (i cant remember the name) so it doesnt get water in it i think.

that's a euro frontend from, i belive 81(80?) through 85. the later 86+ end was pretty much the same but it had a difern't hood, venting behind it and in america, lacked the good H4 glass headlights and come with the ****ty plastic one's.

Same here in Australia. the 81-82 is by far the best looking 240 nose IMO.
Raven, yours looks to be coming along nicely.

Awesome. I'm SO pleased that it got there in one piece!
Remember with all your chrome plastic.
* Sand it all back first
* etch prime
* sand back again
* etch prime
* sand back again
* paint with satin black
* sand back again
* paint with satin black
* lightly sand back
* paint with satin black

It will look great and you wont be able to tell the difference between black plastic and your painted chrome.

Cheers,
Ash

You need this grille. Sourced from Austria off a 244 Turbo I was told. They're not that hard to come by.

One of these days I'll replace the slash. It's the same as my US '86+ 240 grille, so it's easy to get.

looks the same as our '81-'82 240GLE grilles but still not quite the same as your (and our) '86 onwards grilles. Although it is hard to tell without seeing how thick it is.

If it is the same as our '81-'82 240GLE grilles, it would need to be spaced out a little (very easy to do) at the top to fit in with the '86 onwards bonnets... oops, I mean hoods. :-P

Haha, those flat grilles were standard on all '81->85 240's here in Norway. The ugly nose grill was an option, that cost 6000NOK at the time, almost $900 :omg:

The only cars with black grilles were the GLT and Turbo, but they were most of the time, sadly, equipped with a "nose grill", as we call it in Norway (snutegrill). The chrome flathood grille is therefore rather easy to come by, if you want I maybe I can get the parts for a group buy here at my local j/y? I bet ten grilles can easlily be collected in a month. ;-)

Same here in Sweden, i think i have at least 10 grilles in my garage and at the j/y is at least 50 more anytime.

I have 9 complete sets of E-codes to and no problem at all to get more for allmost no money.

Anyone have an idea what an 81-82 euro grille would cost to procure and ship to California? We're getting the 244 running this week so I have a running car to spend money on. I need to trick this plebian looking sucker out. YAY!

Morley, Snutegrill is my new favorite word.

Yikes!

Shipping is extremely expensive, for a 3kg package the right size towrds America, the price is 330NOK, or about $55!!! :omg:

Or to put it this way, price starts at 180NOK, or $30. Then you have to pay $8.23 for each kilo...up to 20 kgs...gulp. Better think twice about that grille :-P

That is true. On my car, the hood overhangs the grille. I used to have the top of the grille zip-tied in place, so that it stuck out to match the hood. One day I found that 1 zip tie had broken, so enough of that, I'm using the pins and springs to mount it, and no one will notice the difference anyway.

A friend of mine put the earlier grille (our '81 - '82 cars) into his '88 (the same as your '86 and my '90) and made two small aluminium brackets - looked VERY neat and factory, he could still use the original clips.

Zip ties though, are probably the best invention ever.

All the parts including the e-codes cost $110 minus whatever I can get for my kick ass USDM plastic headlights on ebay.

swapping out the cowl on the earlier cars for a later one seems to be popular in europe where the pre 1976[?] cars have less or nor emission standards. here of course we want the opposite.

the eggcrate grills are damn good looking if you can find one that has not been cut for the cord of a block heater.

and just to tease y'all here is the set-up that most of us want...
