i peeked under the car and noticed that theres a nice aluminum extrusion supporting the black plastic, has anyone ventured to make that into a bumper?

The aluminum bar has holes (where it mounts to the bumper shocks) and doesn't wrap around the end, so it'll look funny. Other than that, it is the bumper - the plastic cover is just a facade.
