Spray painting my Hydras!!!

Hi,

I'm plannin on using the Duplicolor Wheel Coating on my hydras. I used this stuff on my stock MR2 wheels and they turned out pretty good. I need to know if I could just use a brillo pad to scuff up the surface of the hydra wheels so that the paint has something to stick to, or is there a better way to do this. I did the same brillo pad method on my MR2 and so far the paint is still holding on. Thanks!!

Scotchbrite pads work better.
Clean the wheels first.

I usually wet sand with 400 grit paper if the existing finish is good. It makes them dull so the paint should stick, but not rough and scratched so that it would show through the paint. After cleaning, I do a final wipe down with paint thinner on a paper towel to remove any oils or other things that could contaminate the paint and make it not stick well.
