What - doesn't everyone have one in their 8-car garage?

and how to you get it in the air?
By flying it?

But seriously - the garage appears to be designed as an airplane hanger, and there's most likely a runway nearby, so that's prolly why.

As for me ... my tool box is portable (relatively speaking - it's on wheels), and the work area is outside in the yard, under the openness of nature.

I do most of my work at the several Auto Hobby shops that the military runs here locally. You rent a stall/lift for ~$5 an hour. They have a good amount of tools, as well as special tools for those fun jobs... It's also nice when they call you and ask you to fix their computers because no one else can. Then they let you come in and work on your car for free whenever you need to...

Oh yeah, well my shop is self cleaning! No cleanup ever, oil is trapped right into the gravel/dirt floor surface. You can even spray paint on it and it can be removed by a simple kick with a shoe. My shop cuts down on work time as well partly due to the excruciating pain of lying on the gravel.

Oh the 244 runs like a champ again! Only cost $1200 for a full tranny rebuild waranteed for a year...not at all what I would have done but it's not my money, or my car, yet.

use the image tags up in the menu when you post your post... for instance, here is one of your pics:

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNjc0OTY5NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg

just take the spaces out of between the tag and the url above and it will work just fine. though, those pics are very big.

*edit* its making a silly "..." in the middle and shortening the url so you need to put your whole url into it.

btw, your shop looks nice!
and mike i like your shop alot too...

Getrag's are a transmission. The getrag we were refering to is the 265 (model). Its found in 5, 6 and 7 series BMW's (not going to bother with the specific models). Sean sells adapter plates to use them in your 2/7 series Volvos. Do a search for more info.

The Deore cranks are plenty stiff, but I recommend the 5 arm spider as opposed to the 4 arm. I bent the middle chain ring on my 4 arm spider the first time I took it out on steep climb. I little on the big side when it comes to mountain bikes (6'1" ~230lbs)... I'm in the market for a 5 arm spider if you know anyone that wants to get rid of one.

Although this isn't my personal shop, I have had at least one car inside or in storage (keeps the wife happy if there's 3 or less Volvos at the house. This is where I've started doing al of my large projects. If you have access to any MWR facilities you should try the Auto Craft Shops. Over the last couple of years most shops have dropped all BS about using the shops (they have to pay their way or they close). The picture is of my Bertone being stripped to paint before being put back together. Hope to be done in the spring. I'm in a long term resto slot so it costs $80.00 a month to keep the car and use their tools if I want to. Paintbooth costs extra.

Yep, outside of the garage - because inside there's a '84 242 Turbo surrounded by a bunch of CRAP! I need some serious organizational skills...or a dumpster. Something like that.

You can kinda see the boxes on the left side of the project car in this shot:

http://volvogeek.org/gallery/albums/1984242ti/IM002454.sized.jpg

Or in front of the car from here...

http://volvogeek.org/gallery/albums/1984242ti/IM002456.sized.jpg

Yeah, I need a dumpster out in front of the house for a couple of days. And motivation. Definitely need motivation.

hmmmm i dont need pictures.... just imagine a single car garage... designed to only fit a single car, and nothing else.... no car in it.... just stacks of volvo parts... tools. and engine stand... cranks, a hoist... and all kinds of other crap... i clean it all up every few months but never get any pictures to prove it... either way... theres not any room to work on the vehicle itself... i need a real shop.

Is that your dads 55 nomad? Is that his 66 chevelle as well?
Very cool. If the city's building department here wasn't corrupt and such jackasses, i would build a small shop. Thats awesome. I can picture how clear the garage would be....:) Nice stuff man!

Yup, that's my dads nomad.. and his C4 vette frame it will sit on sooner or later!

The 66 Chevelle SS is my other car, well working on paying for it all anyway. My dad bought it when i was about 14, and we fixed it up some (his money) then he asked if I wanted to buy it off of him... so a loan took care of that business!

The only advantage to where I live globally is land is quite cheap, building something doesn't cost alot and there is alot of space. Higher paying jobs are also quite available with no education here (big oil industry around here..). Otherwise your in the middle of nowhere with terrible climate and not much scenery.. it's a give and take!

2002 is crazy. rack and pinion, custom arms, oval 3" exhaust, 4130 tubular rear beam using E30 diff and arms with discs, wilwood brakes and pedals, full stack instrumentation, zender widebody, crappy wheels. squareback is tube chassis, NA 3.0l, soon to be turbo, the Rabbit behind it is on a beetle tube chassis. It was done in the 80's and was named the "Rare Hare". squareback weighs 1460 wet with driver. lol.

So tires sitting on plexiglass are less likely to develop flat spots?

And batteries going bad or discharging faster because you set them on concrete is probably my favorite idiotic automotive myth.

So tires sitting on plexiglass are less likely to develop flat spots?

And batteries going bad or discharging faster because you set them on concrete is probably my favorite idiotic automotive myth.
]

okay okay, i stand corrected on the battery.

"You see, the myth that concrete drains batteries does have some historical basis. Many, many years ago, wooden battery cases encased a glass jar with the battery inside. Any moisture on the floor could cause the wood to swell and possibly fracture the glass, causing it to leak. Later came the introduction of the hard rubber cases, which were somewhat porous and had a high-carbon content. An electrical current could be conducted through this container if the moist concrete floor permitted the current to find an electrical ground. The wise advice of the old days to "keep batteries off concrete" has been passed down to us today, but it no longer applies because of the advanced technology of today’s batteries."

but the plexi does help the tires.

Funkee, i was not talking about the battery. TIRES.

Wow you guys have some nice workspaces.

I have my mom's garage. It was made in the 30's and will barely fit a 244. You can only get out on one side of the car when it's inside the garage. It's got one incandescent light. Not that I ever do any REAL work on my cars...

I jelly.

Yes that is snow. Yes the ambient temp is about 5 degrees Fahrenheit. There is no floor.

Here's where I'm stuck until we find a new building for the shop to open full-time. I'm running a small motorcycle shop, European repair shop, and even have a small foundry, all running at home right now. Crappy pic off my cell.

Nice. I got a ton of heart pine planks from an old Mill's floor in kentucky. supposed to be from mid 1800's. It's pretty awesome. My friend got all the huge support beams. He has a crazy cabin he built. Other friend's whole interior of home is all hand carved hardwoods. Like floor to ceiling including ceiling. Had a guy up from south america working on it constantly for 8 years to finish. Absolutely insane workmanship.
