Nobody agrees with me, but I think chrome is beautiful. Blacked out trim bores the hell out of me.

you can always find a 740 and use parts from it to help with the blacked out look. but yea, excesive chrome looks bad and 760's def have too much.

chrome does look good in some instances but for the majority of the time I'd stick with the black trim.

Personally I think it depends on the car's body color. Light colored cars look cool with black trim, dark colored cars look good with chrome, IMHO. Unless you're looking for the blacked-out look, of course *cough*vurbo*cough*.

But my avatar speaks for itself. :-P

I think chrome trim looks 'tinselly.' especially front grills, the black eggcrates just look more sporty...and euro...0_o

Honestly 2 months ago i woul dhave sayed black it out, but after i bought my silver 960, I rather like the chrome trim. If my car was black then no, but with the silver its kinda like a neutral color between the black trim and silver car

I'm still stuck in the eighties. My 760 has body colored bumpers, mirrors, etc. I want to black out all the chrome. I like silver wheels though. I think cars look better with black trim.

A little bit of chrome is alright, as it can break up the monotony. Too much, however, and it'll just scream OLD MAN'S CAR.

I think the chrome on 240s is just enough to not look bad. I was considering painting the trim on my 240 but after doin one the chrome just looks more "volvo looking"?? I dont know do what ever you feel like....

Nothing transforms a Volvo like black trim and a nice set of wheels...

I'm probably the only guy on here who's stripped the black paint off my trim to reveal the gleam underneath. I say it really depends on the car and color. As far as 700-900 grilles go, get the egg crate. I dig chrome trim on blues blacks and greens. Red white silver and grays all look great with black. Older cars in red are the exception here, bring the bling. However if you've got a tan car you have more problems than just the trim! Any pics so we can make an informed decision?

Remove all trim. Fill the holes. Paint the car black.

If you must keep the trim, get it powder painted black.

I say leave it. If you black it out, it will just chip-and you'll be worse off than you were when you started.

It doesn't look bad, depends on the color as stated, but 760s just have that "look" with the chrome.

It depends...got a pic?

It wont chip if you do it correctly. I've had my trim blacked out for over a year and it hasnt chipped yet

It's all about having the correct balance.

Example: My Grille.

I actually want to get the whole eggcrate grilled chromed out, but I know nothing about the potential plastics have to be chromed, or where to get it done. Also, I think alot of Volvo chrome unfortunately looks horrible, especially on the 7's and 9's, but some touches of chrome are very nice. However, If I had access to a chrome trimmed car of my series, there are some pieces I would want to swap.

check the sig for nice blacked out trim on a 7 sereies :) IMO, the chrome makes it look cheap as well, and the black looks waay cleaner.

I have a spare chrome grill i took the surround off of to do that, just need to take out the plastic rivet/fasteners from the rest of the gril lto get the frame loose. That looks good, i have seen it on some vallakra pics as well.

I think the same thing, only the oposite. Why am I the only one that feels this way? I think the chrome has a nice classic look. Black just makes it look cheap.

Thanks. That is exactly what I did. Also, I sanded down the grille and painted the center part a glossy black with my dad. The original grille color is a dark graphite, which had a shot clear coat, and in my opinion the glossy black looks much better; even over a pristene graphite colored grille.

SwedishBrick240, I'm also with you on the chrome, I think it looks great for the most part, but there are some pieces which Volvo should have chromed differently/not chromed at all. I think the P1800's are the best example of well chromed Volvos.

I like the black on my taillights instead of the chrome stripe.

Front...well...sticking with stock on the 242 until the flathood conversion. Then the grill goes black and will decide on the headlight surrounds.

Just my 2 cents.

Black. Chrome is a vestage of the Baroque Period in the '50s. Do go for what you like as it is your ride.

I don't really care for chrome myself...... the only thing I haven't painted flat black on my car is the volvo emblem in the grill, and that will NEVER be painted, every other piece....Black
