So I put an 850 front bumper cover on my 86 740 and noticed that when the sides are aligned with the wheel well, there is a 1 - 2 inch gap between the front ( under the grill / lights ) and where the cover starts. I have not taken my cover off yet but I know I have read on this problem before. Is there a way to mount it without trimming down the sides. I don't want this to look butchered.

Two other questions :

I asked before but go no answer about the 850 rear bumper cover of sedans. Would they mount onto a 740 wagon easier than the 850 wagon cover? The 850 wagons have raised edges while the 740 wagons / 850 sedans don’t.
Lastly, is there a difference in length, width or height between the 850 wagon and sedan side skirts?

Hope all of this was clear. Thanks a bunch in advance.

I know they make a plastic filler piece that you can use. Not sure it will work with the 740 . Check with Frank @ Eurosporttuning.com he put an 850 bumper on his 940 wagon. He might be able to help you. He also has pictures of his car on the site.

yeah the 850 side skirts are about an inch and a half to two inches too short for 700 series cars, already tried that, haha.

thanks for the info...I was going over today to measure them. Thanks for the contact John, I will check with them about the front. If it doesn't work out it's no big deal. The cover was free.
So, am I correct in assuming that 960 side skirts mount right up??

I just put the 960 skirts on my 740 wagon and I had to also use the front mud flaps because the skirts are a little short, but the mout up very nicely. You might be interested in what I did to my car? I swapped the 740 front end with a 940 fenders, hood and cowl. Used European 940 headlights, 940 grille and a 960 front bumper. Also put the 960 rear bumper on. The side door trim pieces are off a v70 modified to fit.
It will be coming out of the shop next week.

Please post some picks John. Did you do the work or is it being done by a shop. I am not sure that I want to go that far with my car. I like my front end (lights mostly) I just wanted the bumper covers and side skirts to make my car look a little lower. I have it lowered so far that it is becoming a hassle to drive. I think this way I can get that look and not have the car be that low. BTW: for the side skirts, does it clip on or involve drilling? Thanks

When I get the car back I will attempt to post some pictures. The skirts were fairly easy to install, the 960 's actual clip on, but I removed the clipsand screwed on a piece of aluminium, 1"x1/8"to the inside of the skirt where the clips used to be. Used some double sided tape to hold it too the rocker panel. The bottom has holes that allow you the attached under the car. Hope that helps you.
