ok whole story.this used to be my dads car in high school he had it exactly like in the first pic for almost a year then went to the old fremont drag strip and blew it up.
ok long story my grandpa and my dad put this thing together in 71'. ok so my dad and grandpa are fabracating this, and the front cross member is out of a MG is directly under th oil pan and they have to custom make 1 out of 2 stock ones(FYI they did all the metal fab with hammer and dolly and a oxy/ascetlyne welder so yea old skool)so my dad has the stock volvo rear end in it and a 4spd out of a mustang(wheelies)and then he decided to make it even faster so he gets a blower off of a guy thats got a drag car.so he installs it and runs it back and forth to school. so after he had the car how he wanted it and runnig good he takes it over to fremont drag strip and make 1 run sucessfully.feeling good he goes for a second run he makes it throungh first gear then it happens. he loses oils pressure and throws a rod through the side of the block destroying it.so after that he sold the blower(6-71) for enough money for a HIPO 289 which is what is still in there in the 2nd pic(took off valve covers). so then he got a 73 p1800es sport wagon. and then over the summer he bought me a 242t which is my temporary brick until my 444 is done but i like it sooo much i dont wanna sell it.but yeah and thats about it.
if you got more questions feel free to ask. :-D

Paint does that when it gets real old. Especially lacquer, when left outside.

Looks like aluminum [?] on the firewall, unless thats just to make it look cleaner :)

So true. My friends dad has a charger and chevelle painted with lacquer iirc, and it looked terrible after 5 years of sitting to the side of the barn.
Although in his case, the barn fell over and crushed the charger! So much for a repaint  :(
Are you going to repaint it in red again?

Those look like the original front frame spars - the stick forward straight as an arrow to the bumber mounts (crumple zone? bah!) and Y at the firewall, with one leg wrapping underneath the floorboard and the other extending up the firewall. It is possible that they were cut off the firewall and widened slightly, but if so the crossmember would have to be swapped - the upper A-arm pivots are against the frame spars as is. But I doubt that was needed. I've seen a few other V8 and V6 PV's that certainly didn't need such major surgery. It is just *tight* back by the bellhousing. You can see in this case they put the exhaust manifolds on 'backwards' with the exhaust going out forwards, turning, and going back over the tops of the tires - all to avoid the tight area at the bellhousing.

it would look better if the rear arches were pulled out so they come down to meet the tyre right, instead of those flares

yes you all are very observant.my air cleaner is upside down.and that is old laquer paint that flakes off when you rub it.i've always hated the fender flares but back in the day narrowing a rear end in your garage was unheard of.but this time around were just gonna tub it and narrow the rear end the right way.just got a new front suspension for it(mustang 2 style).theres a chance i might tubo it like 60/40% chance i really want another supercharger but how the exhaust runs we could easily do a twin turbo setup. but im not really a fan of turbo v8's so im not sure yet.there are no fender wells, and yes the hood does have a functional hood(so theres a fat hole under the scoop).but the good news is i found a guy in the state that made a fiberglass front end for his 544 which is basically the same thing so if he's still making them im deffinatly going to get 1.so so far the plans for the engine are to bore and stroke it to 408,high rise intake,250 shot fogger, full roller engine, aluminuim heads, tremec TKO2,8 point cage,
and if anybody wanted to know if we do all the work the answer is yes. we can and will do everything besides boreing the block out. all fabrication, wireing, welding, engine assembly, and head work will be done in my garage.my family dosen't own a shop we do it all the old school way with a set of jack stands and a creeper.
and this is NOT my dads car this is my car. im 16 and a sophmore at livermore high school.
Where are these meets?? intrested in meeting all of you guys. :-D
is it possible to make a section of the forum for v8 brick? just a question dont want to segregate into groups or anything just so other can exchange info about there cars.

There is a separate forum for V8 bricks on this site. http://www.brickboard.com It's mostly a stock repair and maintenence site. The V8 forum used to be very good long ago when I
used to go to that site.
Nice project,

i am referring to the sheetmetal on the firewall.
