So I guess I'm jumping on the bandwagon and putting in foglights like everyone else is/has. Now, these aren't offical volvo, but they were free. Lights, brackets, all wiring+remote was taken off a car that was abandonded at my dads shop. We are going to wire them later so that there isn't constant power(right now they are direct to battery, lame) so that I won't forget they are on and drain my battery(that would SUCK).

Couldn't go with the stock foglight positions on a the 760 front valence that I have because the oil & tranny coolers are there(working wonderfully I might add). You can view all the pics and stuff view the link my sig. MORE TO COME!

way cool, try to find one of the early 240 dash switches. The switch is green says "fog lights" illuminates when engaged, and fits in the slots by the hazard switch.
Dang dude looking at your homepage you are the FREE king. FREE RULES

thanks guys :) wasnt sure how ppl would like 'em.
@Puck: Yeah I've got one of those already, but its for the rear fog lights! We are gonna keep the remote thing, just have 'em hooked up different so theres no way i can accidently leave 'em on. It is what it is for now.
@Double: Mine were free, can't beat that. They sell this type of foglight at walmart and stuff for like $30 though i think. They usually come with everything you need, plus you prolly already know theres all sorts of different types. :D They can make your car look a bit better though.

I have been thinking about getting some sort of auxilary lighting for my 1986 244DL. My low beams are very lacking and the beam pattern is kinda scattered. The high beams however are pretty good and theres a clean output of lighting on the road. I know fogs are only meant to scatter lighter a few feet in front of the car low to the ground. Would 'pencil beams' be the thing I should be looking for? I would like something that could be mounted under the bumper so I don't really wanna get any massive hella round driving lights.

Fog lamps are for a wider area, low to the ground [as you mentioned]. The pencil beams would be more driving light oriented...
Fog lamps let you see what is to the side and front just ahead of the car. A driving light is just distance. All depends where you drive, and live.

I got new headlights several months ago off of ebay, and they are in almost perfect condition. I also got different bulbs(supposed to be "blushish" but they werent really). Anyways, theres plenty of light now with how I have them aimed, but the foglights were just a nice addition. My headlights are set so that the light STARTS about 3-4ft in front of my bumper(whats the point of having light in front of your bumper anyways? if its that close your gonna hit it anyways! :) ). The lights do exactly what Box said, and that's give a bit more on the sides and front. Now with having really good headlights it doesn't do as much with the front, but quite a bit on the side.... If I turn my headlights off though, my foglights are bright enough to actually drive with if I wanted to.
@Dan: Thanks for the compliment. My dad is all about cold air and he decided that was a way better spot than using stock locations. Guess that's why we put the IC upside down and in front of the AC condensor, but... no one likes that anyways! My oil temp always stays way down, and I'm assuming my tranny temp does too just because they are RIGHT up front. We put up some thick type screening to protect from rocks and stuff, but ifyou wanted too you could use really small stuff and have more-less an air filter type thing. Theres alot of pictures of everything in the link via my sig, feel free to check it out!
If anyone happens to see something on my car that they, for whatever reason, really like, just let me know and I can explain how we did certain things!
@Deer: Forgot to respond to you :P Ok, as of now I'm running the stock ECU from an 86 240 Wagon, as well as a stock ignition. The only thing about the fuel thats really been changed is I'm running different fuel injectors(from a supercharged buick motor). Oh and we modified the fuel rail so that we could adapt a fuel pressuer guage, and we painted it chrome :) Now, that doesn't mean its all good, it's just functional. Right now I cant just put my foot to the floor because it'll die out, I have to ease into the throttle to get to the floor without sputtering and to get to 10psi. It doesn't really get enough fuel at 10psi, but that is what the guage said. Normal driving(around town/highway), it runs 5-7psi without a problem, and that's working magic with the pedal(easing into it and only going to half throttle usually). My timing is advanced ALOT, and still needs to be changed because if I really get into the throttle it'll start to click or wahtever it does. Now before everyone panics and starts saying that I need to stop doing this and that it's unsafe, yada yada, trust me, I know. That's why I plan on getting MSnS as soon as I can as well as a fuel pressure regulator and possible different injectors. So what I have is functional, not safe, but my dad said with how I drive and how the car is setup, I'm really not going to harm anything. Hope this answers your question :)
