View Full Version : Color options for "new" Virgo's ...

Seeing how I'm up another full set of Virgo rims that might make its way to the '90, should I just repaint 'em all Rustoleum #7715 (top) or do something different by leaving the rim bright and painting the spokes black (bottom)?

http://www.powerpuff.net/volvo/misc/Virgo_colors.jpg

Or something else? All black is not an option - it makes it look like a cheap steelie IMHO ... which is what the car came with in the first place, and what I'm getting rid of!

-- Kane ... and just ignore how the concrete got tinted in the process. :-P

Innards black, polish the lip to a chrome-like sheen. Sexah. New chrome lugnuts, too.

Dammit, that was my idea :-P

I think that would look pretty damn cool though. Go ahead and do it so I can see how it looks before I do it ;-)

Tried my best to brighten up the lip, but like this?

And the other pic + tint

-- Kane ... don't think I can get the "black chrome" effect in real life like the pic, though.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

finally someone who agrees with me that flatblack looks cheap and tacky...

ps. do the center black and the lip/dish silver, as in the top pic in the 2nd group...that looks sick. edit: the same one that aaron likes.

I like your original idea of painting the spokes and the area that they attach to, and then have the lip, AND the dish polished(not painted). So, what Aaron and Cullen are saying. :-D

that'd be hot, black spokes with everything else polished. I think a bead blasted spoke with some gloss would like nice against polished lip/bowl too.

I can deal with polishing the lip, but seeing how I don't have a little brother to provide free labor, nor is my time worthless, nor do I plan on spending more than $20 to do all 4 wheels (which rules out taking 'em in for any sort of blasting service) ... sorry - I do have to draw the line that I'm not going to even try polishing the dish.

LET ALONE THE ENTIRE WHEEL, samyboy!

Heheh, yeah, that'd be a grip of work... the polished lip would be better than nothing. :D

jack the car up, spin the wheel around. get some 150, then a ton of 400 grit. thay'll be good enough for a machined finish. use a buffing wheel on a drill (dremel would take forever) if polished is desired. not hard to do, could do over a weekend for start to finish.

I'll try on a spare Draco first to see if this is feasible ... hardest part I imagine is by the spokes. Still trying not to spend more than a few hours total for all of 'em, though.

Definitely original there, Neil. Kind of the reverse effect to the silver+black stripe.

-- Kane ... who redid the original post's pic using the 5th spare from my original set; it's a better basis than a grimey junkyard rim.

Kane, the second pictures looks great. That's exactly how i'd do it, although preferably(if I had time and patience) with the non-black stuff polished. Or painted as bright and polished looking as you can. good stuff! Can't wait to see the results!

My personal thoughts of this is that after getting these rare breed rims, they should be painted the original color to keep the original look of the style.take care all.

Thanks for all the comments and votes (even though it's not closed, but it's clear where the opinions are), it's the real deal now!

No, it ain't polished :-(, but it is slightly brighter than the pshop pics since I used Rustoleum #7718 (chrome) instead of #7715 (aluminum) for the lip/dish. The spokes is Plasti-kote #1006, Chrysler dark charcoal gray metallic.

-- Kane ... a little over an hour, from scuffing+primer to clear coats. Not perfect, and I have a little touchup to do on the dish, but passes the visual test (IMHO) at the 1-ft. level which is good enough for me!
