i was wondering if you guys with the b21ft with cranked boost and an A cam could post your finding on this cam...i dont personally favor the high top end of the k cam...and i definately hate the stock T cam...and the A is supposed to have good all around power band (good for street use) so if you guys with this cam could post it would be aprreciated thanks

The A cam is a good all round cam. It's got better bottom end than the K but still will pull hard right to 6000 or higher. It won't build boost as soon as the T will. I found 1st gear a little useless in my car with the A cam. It went through 1st so quickly, the boost wasn't building until I hit 3 or 4K. A little spike and I had to shift. 2nd was fun though and 3rd (if the clutch held) was a riot. It just pulled and pulled and pulled. You never wanted to back out...

If you've got an automatic, you'll hate it though....

Hope that helps...

Yes, a very good n/a cam, particularly if you have a high compression engine. I'm assuming you have a B23F which should be 10:1....You'll like it just a touch more than the M cam, although if you like low-end grunt, you can't beat the M....

Match the ignition with the cam if you can, it helps bigtime with the bottom end.

I have a 1982 b21ft+i with an A-cam that i happen to install last week. My wagon has as AW71 transmission and the b230ft intake manifold . I switch from the T-cam because she felt flat going in the upper 4,500 to 5,000 rpm. But not the case with the A-cam :) . I have to address that my cylinder head was milled down due to an overheat situation, so i am not running the O.E spec 7:5:1 CR. I don't know what compression ratio i'm running, all i know that it was milled to have a flat surface. I have read that running 7:5:1 with the A-cam you suffer lost in low end torque, which I think can be true.

From my experience i can only add that I'm running an A-cam with higher compression and with an adjustable cam gear( from dales) set at 6 degree advanced. The wagon has great low end torque, no noticeable lost in low end grunt compared to the T-cam. My wagon feels stronger with the A-cam(more intake air=more power) with a stock exhaust system(2.1in) which really takes a percentage of the A-cam fullest performance. I can't wait until i get the 90+exhaust manifold attached to a 2.5in mandrel bent exhaust from the turbo(rebuilt garrett unit waiting at hand) all the way back.

All in all i like the A-cam over the T-cam. My wagon starts pulling strong in 2nd gear from aprox. 2,000 rpm to 4,700. Keep in mine i have 6 degree advanced. And in the upper high end she keep pulling strong in the upper 4,500+rpm. I think setting up the camgear at 4 degrees will pull to 5,500-6000 rpm upper range. Since i like running the wagon in the mid to high range this is why i choose this setup. Also my tranny as of now is going south and needs to be overhauled pretty soon.

Hope this helps.

The A-cam rocks in a B21FT. With my brothers old engine we started doing a few upgrades to it. In stock form we couldn't get below an 11 second 0-60 time. With an A-cam, 60 trim compressor housing and wheel, 12psi, intercooler, open 740 DP, and K-jet with terminal 11 trick, we got it down to about 7.2 seconds. That was a HUGE improvement. Then the clutch fried....

dag..11sec. Thats really slow. B4 my car was even upgraded at all i got like 9-10secs outta it. stock high mileage B21FT. After whats happing now to her, im hoping for mid 6's or mid 7's. Ive been runnin it at around 5-6psi, and she is really strong. Just 1 run at 15 should yeild the results im after.

"A cam" has 226 duration iirc and "B cam" has around 229duration iirc. B cam is proablly what you lookin for. Im not quite sure of the lobe seperation difference of the cams? anyone know? dale? If u want a cam that will pull like a mo-fo when the powerband starts, and lets say the "a cam" has the tighter seperation, go with the A.

Not bad, not bad at'all. The cam should help, though it'd be very interesting to see the before and after times. I figured that holding the stopwatch in my left fingers with my palm on the steering wheel, and my right hand on the shifter works out pretty good. Or use a co-pilot.

If you've got an automatic, you'll hate it though....

Does it not work well with automatics?
